The dispersal sale of the Gossington Holstein Friesian milking herd and in-calf heifers for Ken Moss at Slimbridge, Gloucestershire attracted a large crowd of buyers from Wales, the Midlands and the South East.
2,500gns was paid on two occasions for calved heifers both sired by Shanael Duplex Peru. The first to make the top money was Gossington Peru Fantail purchased by J M Lowe of Hereford, and nine lots later Gossington Peru Fiona off a 10,793kg dam was sold to A R Cozens of Stonehouse, Gloucestshire.
Berkshire based milk producers Yattendon Estate Ltd of Thatcham purchased 32 cattle including two at 2,350gns, the Critchel Principal sired heifer Gossington Principal Ann out of a 10,933kg Picston Shottle dam, and Gossington Result Esta, a grading up heifer by Moet Result off a 13,451kg dam. They also bought the top priced non pedigree heifer at 2,250gns.
Leading the cow section was the 3rd calver Gossington Jordan Helen Red which had recorded 10,379kg in her last lactation. The Ja Bob Jordan Red daughter was purchased by H H & D M Wall of Ludlow, Shropshire, for 2,350gns. The 2nd calver Gossington Amateur Fillpail sold for 2,250gns to J M Lowe, Hereford. The Ba Bob Amateur daughter of a 12,408kg dam had recorded 7,174kg at 4.66%F and 3.50%P as a heifer.
The large group of in-calf heifers sold to 1,700gns for the late September calving Gossington Mason Vera, a daughter of Eastview Jason and out of a 10,183kg Weeton Jackson dam. She was one of 25 cattle purchased by D W, E N & D G N Richards of Pontyberem, Carmarthenshire.
