Kivells held the dispersal sale of the “Carlyon” herd on behalf of Messrs RJ & EE Laity & Son of Truro at Hallworthy Stockyard.

This well bred milky herd of cows sold to the most packed ringside seen for some time with nearly 70 different buyers from all over the Westcountry, Wiltshire and Staffordshire ensuring an excellent trade throughout.

Three animals smashed the 3000gns barrier and first to do it was “Carlyon Shottle Lulu 2 VG86” a Shottle daughter having calved to her first in March giving nearly 40kgs, she was bred from 9 generations of VG/EX cows going back to “A Tora Triple Treat Lulu PI EX” and sold to Paul Andrews of Plymouth for his Beneknowle herd. It was two served heifers which were twin sisters next in line to reach 3000gns with “Carlyon Dictator Pamela 4” by Overside Dictator making exactly that selling to Messrs Hussell of Shebbear for their Perrins herd whilst her twin sister “Carlyon Dictator Pamela 5” sailed past her with spirited bidding and the hammer finally fell at 3250gns to Messrs Bennett of St Austell for their Pemberlain herd. These heifers were bred out of five Excellent dams from Crichel going back to “Portlea Ned Pamela EX94”. “Carlyon Shottle Janice 43” a Shottle daughter classified VG89 as a second calver and was reserve champion at the Cornish Dairy Evening 2010, sold to 2650 gns to Mr Harris of Bodmin. Her July born heifer calf “Carlyon Razorlight Janice 59” by Moorshard Razorlight sold well for 1500gns to Mr Andrew of Beaworthy. Making the same money was the much awaited show cow and the first through the ring from this family was “Carlyon Jackson Suzan 212 EX94(3) SP LP50” an outstanding cow by Weeton Jackson which gave over 14000kgs last time and sold due to her sixth calf in June to Mr Minister, she sold to Richard Norman of Yeovil for his Normandy herd. Her two milking daughters by Shottle and Wildman sold to 1850gns and 2000gns whilst her September born granddaughter out of the the Shottle second calver “Carlyon Outbound Suzan 332” by the exciting new sire Schilldale Outbound sold exceptionally well to 1500gns to Treginegar Dairy Farm, Cornwall for their Treginegar herd. Her other September born granddaughter out of the Widman milking heifer was “Carlyon Razorlight Suzan 314” by Moorshard Razorlight and  sold for 1400gns to Mr Andrew again of Beaworthy.

September calving in calf heifers sold to 1250gns and bulling heifers sold to 1020gns for “Risingstar Phil MD Fawn” by Dalbytop Phil out of a well bred family. Calves were a shade easier than of late but still plenty between 300-400gns.
