Denmire Manoman Marie

A top price of 23,000gns (£24,150) and an outstanding average of £4076 was achieved at the Holstein UK Genetic Elite Sale held at Harrison & Hetherington’s Borderway Centre, Carlisle (6th June). Interest from across the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe ensured brisk bidding at the 2011 edition of this event.

Many incredible opportunities filled the catalogue including fancy young cows and two year old animals, genomic chart topping sensations, show calves and tomorrow’s most prolific brood cows.

Top price went to Denmire Manoman Maria, a Manoman daughter from a VG87 Goldwyn from the very best line of the Marie family. This outstanding October 2010 calf is one of the highest genomic females to ever sell at public auction in the UK with a GTPI+2218.  Most of the AI studs have already placed bull contracts as well as her having £7500 worth of embryos previously sold.  Manoman Maria was purchased by Hugh Neilson of Overside Holsteins, Strathaven, for 23,000gns (£24,150).

Continuing the trend of top prices for high testing genomic animals was Twinfields Shottle Autumn, selling for 12,000gns to Brian Yates, Logan Holsteins, near Castle Douglas. This sensational Shottle was a daughter of MS Atless Roy Autumn VG89 2yr old, the 2008 All American Milking Yearling whose grand dam is the All American Durham Atlee, dam of exciting young sires Atwood and Aftershock. Shottle Autumn also sold with bull and embryo contacts to many of the leading AI studs.

The UK’s number one milk cow and one of the highest indexing females is Shanael Bolton Golden VG88 2yr old. To date, she had produced 24,245 kg in 462 days in her first lactation. Embryos have been exported worldwide from this special individual and selling was a first choice female from three heifer pregnancies due in November by Palermo. This fantastic offering was purchased by Majestic Holstein in N. Ireland for 9,500gns.

Majestic Holstein also sold a stunning calf for 6,000gns. She was Majestic Gerrard Leona 2 with a GTPI+2042 carrying numerous bull contracts. She attracted huge interest and now returns to N.Ireland joining brother’s Wilson and Wallace Patton’s Ards Herd, Co Down.

Sterndale Holsteins owned by Bill Nadin consigned a number of quality heifers with a top selling price of 7,500gns for Sterndale Shot Lassie. This fancy animal sold to Firth Holsteins, Annan, being a Shottle from an EX94 Durham from the heart of the incredible Lila Z family.
