23-06-2011 - Trade hots up again at Bristol to 3,000gns

Prices rose to 3,000gns at the June Collective Bristol Dairy Sale from the large gathering of buyers from throughout the West Country, Midlands and South Wales.

 
The top price of 3,000gns was paid by Wiltshire buyer C Morley & Calne for the calved heifer Marcroft Bolton Pocahontas sired by Sandy Valley Bolton out of 12 generations of cows in the top two grades.  She was consigned by W J & P Puddy of Highbridge, Somerset.
 
 
The Drake sired calved heifer Swallowdale Drake Bluebell 141st from C Elmes, Swindon, sold for 2,400gns to P W & D P Round & Son, Gloucester.
 
 
The next highest price of 2,380gns was paid for a non pedigree heifer fro regular consigner Adrian Ractliffe of Gloucester, she was purchased by D Bennett of Caerwent, Monmouthshire.
 
 
Adrian Ractliffe also consigned the 2,300gns heifer Haresfield Specialist Dewdrop purchased by Amos Partners of Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
 
 
Best cow price was 2,150gns paid by P W & D P Round & Son for the 2nd calver Dayhouse Specialist Carol from G J & F L Robertson, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire.  She was off a 10,095kg Comestar Lee from the Daniels herd of T H Davis & Son of Blakeney, Gloucester, sold to 1,650gns twice, both being purchased by Welsh buyers.  Daniels Shottle Fiona 2 by Picston Shottle out of a 10,598kg dam sold to G M, M & D W Morgan, Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan.  The Burlane Tennyson sired Daniels Tennyson Innie off a 12,586kg Ricecrest Marshall was purchased by W T R Parry of Chepstow.  The 16 in-calf heifers from the Daniels herd of Messrs Davis averaged £1,536.94.
 

The sale also included the dispersal of Nigel Brain’s loose housed herd from Pershore, Worcestershire, which peaked at 1,550gns paid by P A & M J Rymer of Chepstow for a 2nd calver.
