Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt were on farm at Manor Farm Wiveliscombe on Thursday 23rd June 2011 for the dispersal of the “Manor” Herd for MP & E Leigh-Firbank. The Leigh-Firbank name has been synonymous with the breeding of Holstein Cattle in the South West for many decades. A large crowd witnessed the 265 head go under the hammer with 50 successful purchasers taking cattle across the country from Devon to Sussex to Camarthen.
The day’s top price of 2100gns was generated by “Manor Dictator Dahlia 3rd” a freshly calved 32.8kgs heifer by “Overside Dictator”. A May calved 2nd lactation cow from the “Forida” family and by “Cogent Disciple” giving 43.4 kgs sold for 2000gns.
The strongest trade of the day was experienced for the Autumn/Winter Calving heifers with “Manor Mars Annie” due September to “Moet Melody” whose third dam was “Littlebredy Annie 2nd” selling for 1800gns. At 1750gns was “Manor Desmond Sylvia” also due September to “Net-a-Way Pilot” sexed semen.
15 month old Maiden Heifers by “Wa-Del Hayden” sold to 850gns. The top priced heifer calf of the day was “Manor Lennard Desire Red” who at 19 days old sold for 480gns.
