An entry of 275 cattle from 22 different herds spanning 15 different counties made for a full Bristol Sales Centre on Tuesday this week. A strong show of black & white cattle, including two part dispersals gave the 39 recorded buyers plenty of choice.
Five Holstein heifers topped the 2,000 guinea mark with Geoff Williams of the noted Penrikka herd consigning the top priced heifer at 2,400 guineas. Bred from 5 generations of VG/EX cows, she sold 4 weeks calved giving 7 ½ gallons (34 litres) to Paul Rymer for his Iftonhill herd near Newport. Paul, bidding over the telephone from his holiday deckchair on the Pembrokeshire coast, purchased four high quality heifers including Hinton Shottle Rosalind 2, one of five heifers sold for R. D Horton & Son, for 2,300gns. The five Hinton heifers sold averaged £2,117.
Served heifers were a level trade selling up to 1,600 gns for a Shottle daughter from Peter Andrews’ Ruckhall herd and a consignment of 26 maidens, all aged less than 11 months, sold well for Mr & Mrs David Banham from Skegness averaging over £620 and peaking at 740 guineas.
