22-08-2011 - First lot through ring sets fast trade at £2000

Kivells had another great entry of 136 dairy cattle for the mid month dairy sale at Holsworthy Market, Devon which saw a flying trade with the first lot through the ring selling for £2000 and 5 others smashing the £2000 barrier to a peak of £2200.

Top of the day was a cracking heifer from Messrs WP and CA Jose and Son of North Tamerton with “Hollafrench Celeritas Ruby 122” by a homebred sire Hollafrench Mr Celeritas a Stormatic son, their consignment averaged £1850. Messrs IG and PR Stephens and Son of Chilsworthy sold two heifers “Supermoo Caroline” and a non pedigree heifer also to £2000, their consignment averaged £1893. Messrs CL and C Greet of Saltash who are dispersing their herd as they calve sold a non pedigree heifer by Mattison for £2000.  Messrs AF and SG Loud and Son of Lewdown who are continuing to disperse their Combebow herd as they calve received another flying trade with their consignment topping at £1900 for “Combebow Sandstorm 4” by Hasselt Novelty, their consignment of 7 heifers averaged £1610. Very few first quality cows were forward however Messrs WP and CA Jose and Son of North Tamerton also topped the cow trade at £2000 with their second calver “Hollafrench Peggy 78” by Mascol and she sold giving 45Kgs.

Other cows sold to £1680 for “Springbird Roxybet Juliana” a second calver by Springbird Roxybet for Mr GCB Davis, Tiverton who also sold a Shorthorn cow for £1450. Messrs Bonner Farms, Umberleigh sold the first consignment to disperse their herd to a top of £1520 for a freshly calved fourth calver which sold giving 38Kgs. Dry cows due in September from the same vendor sold to £1400. Messrs OJ Hopper and Son of Beaworthy sold two in calf heifers exceptionally well to £1620 for “Tillislow Matson Queen” who is due in October to Sexed Semen.  A large consignment of 30 pedigree in calf heifers from the “Lanawood” herd on behalf of Messrs RJ Vanstone of Pancrasweek sold to a top £1500 twice with 9 others over the £1400 mark. Bulling heifers sold to £790 for Messrs Holland Farms of Tavistock.
