23-08-2011 - Dispersal of the Welston herd

<<< Back to Sale Reports

Another super herd of cows came to Carmarthen Livestock Centre to be dispersed and brought with them a ring full of fast bidding buyers. Mostly pedigree and all organic, the Welston herd consisted of cows with depth of body and excellent yields and an interesting mix of Montbeliard and Simmental cows that also sold very well.

Top price however was a Pedigree Holstein cow, Welston Iron Tulip VG88, a May calver still giving in excess of 40Kg of milk daily and back in calf to the Simmental stock bull. She joined the Capel herd of R Morse for £3100. Welston Tenille Monogram GP83 was next highest at £2250 and went to E & SEG Thomas, Pontshan, Llandysul. She also gave 41Kg/day and was back in calf to Simmental.

One of the best bred lines in the herd was the Dallas family and the first one in was another daughter of Boss Iron, out of 4 generations Very Good and Excellent going back to the imported Kamonte Dallas PI EX95(2) where the Dallas line of the Grove herd started from. Welston Iron Dallas PI VG87 sold to Worthing Partners, Login for £2100 and her daughter Welston Kendall Dallas 5 PI was 4 months in calf and went to R Morse for £1700.

The only other cow to reach £2000 was Welston Iron Onwy VG87 and went to Davies, Hendre, St. Clears.
