24-08-2011 - Penrikka heifer sells for 2,300gns at Bristol

<<< Back to Sale Reports

Five heifers made over £2,000 at the August Bristol Dairy Sale where buyers gathered from Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Monmouthshire and Carmarthenshire.

Top price for the second sale running was from the much respected Penrikka herd of Geoff and Jean Williams, Hay-on-Wye.  Their Romandale Star Chief sired calved heifer Penrikka Star Chief Jocelyn bred from 4 generations of VG/EX cows sold for 2,300gns to P W & D P Round & Son, Gloucester.

Her herdmate, the second calver Penrikka complex Bluebell led the cow section at 2,200gns selling to Court Farm Partnership of Dymock, Gloucester.  She was a Mesland Duplex granddaughter off a 10,627kg 5.34%F dam.

J F Temple & Sons’ decision to travel from the other side of England on the North Norfolk coastline was rewarded with a brace of 2,000 plus guinea sales.  The first of their calved heifers, Chalkfarm Alliance Orange 31 sold for 2,100gns to Simon Vaughan of Leominster, Herefordshire.  Their other heifer, Chalkfarm Genius Noreen, was purchased by Steve Waters of Redwick, Caldicot, for 2,020gns.

Served heifers sold to 1,480gns twice for September calvers from T H Davis & Sons, Blakeney, Gloucestershire.

Cross-bred served heifers sold to 1,020gns and Jersey cross heifer calves to 330gns.

An excellent day’s trading was again recorded at Bristol with only three cattle remaining unsold on a day when two competing dairy sales were staged by rival firms within a 40 mile radius and a number of farmers combining and straw carting on a dry day.  Our grateful thanks to those that supported the sale at this convenient location which is fast gaining popularity from both sellers and buyers alike.
