Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt held their annual September Special Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 13th September and an excellent attendance witnessed a continued strong dairy trade across the board.

 

The sale started with the collective fresh milk with Roland & Simon Buglers Bettiscombe Herd topping the day at 2280gns for ‘Talent Jane 18th’ GP82 who had calved to her second a month ago. It was the cows that were in strongest demand with the 2nd calvers ‘Bettiscombe Beacon Cross Stitch’ by their own ‘Goldwyn Beacon’ bull selling for 2250gns and DC Dennis & Son’s ‘Arron Baxter Torch’ VG85 also at 2250gns. The calved heifer ‘Bettiscombe Lucente Jemima’ also sold at 2250gns and others to 2220gns for RK & SG Miller & Sons ‘Moorshard Dictator Katey’, 2200gns for CJ & JA Reed’s ‘Yardhayes Braveheart Sarah’.

 

All of the 6 Holstein Bulls forward sold topping at 1850gns for DC Dennis & Son’s very well bred ‘England-Ammon Million’ son off the ‘Hayleys Margot’ family ‘Dinnaton McKellem’.

 

The herd dispersal of commercial mainly spring calving cows for ‘Fricker & Bristol’ generated a good trade selling to 2020gns for the Dry Cow by ‘Burt’ and due to her 2nd to ‘Wa-Del Junction’. A June 3rd calver by ‘Moet Moet Melody’ given 39kgs sold for 1680gns.

 

The final sale of 37 non-recorded British Friesian dry cows for Hill Farm Estates Sold to 1400gns for a ‘Dovea Bass’ daughter due October to her 4th.

 

Cross bred Incalf Heifers due to ‘Dynasty’ topped at 1390gns for RJ Jeanes & Son and served non-recorded spring calving Holstein Friesian heifers sold to 1100gns for FG Knapman & Co.

 

The 4th consignment of heifers from Lulworth Castle Farms ‘Poynings’ herd of yearling and younger heifers sold to a very strong trade with 15month old ‘Poynings H Bolivia Goldie’ and ‘Poynings N Altaomax Reba’ selling for 820gns and 10month old ‘Emerald-Acr-Sa T-Baxter’ daughters for 700gns.

A day where all vendors left pleased with the trade and 52 different purchasers from as far afield as Cornwall, Northampton, Shropshire and Sussex were successful in generating the following averages:
