Holstein South Wales Show and Sale - 21/09/11


The heifer class dominated proceedings in the September Show and Sale from Holstein South Wales Breeders and judge Michael George (Brynhyfryd) commended the quality that was put ahead of him. First in the class and Champion of the show was Penrikka Patriot Cinderella a calved heifer by Scotchhills Patriot and out of 8 generations of cows classified Excellent or Very Good including the NHS Grand Champion and Fitzhugh Winner at the Royal Welsh Glenridge Raider Cinderella Ex95. She sold for 2450gns to Michael Georges' Brynhyfryd herd. Reserve Champion was a heifer presented by Richard Thomas (Churchvale). She was Nevern Glenna and was by Canyon-Breeze HRL Arctic and out of an EX90 Shottle dam. She sold for 1950gns and joined the Shoreview herd of Mesrs Davies, Manorbier. A class of in calf heifers was also seen with entries from the Haverhill herd of Keith and Helen Williams, Spittal and the Deyrn herd of Huw Williams and Son, Llangyndeyrn. The class went to Haverhill Reunion Moxy who was 6 months in calf and had a deep pedigree consisting of 8 cows classified Excellent and Very Good and also went to the Brynhyfryd herd at 1850.

Also at Carmarthen, five other heifers cross the £2000 mark and in calf heifers sell to £2300. The entire milking portion of the Haverhill herd of Keith and Helen Williams was recently dispersed as a whole and Carmarthen Mart saw the first instalment of Haverhill heifers, calving to the end of the year. The best price went for Haverhill Reba, by Baxter and out of 4 successive generations of cows from Weeton and Deehaven, classified Excellent or Very Good. She sold for £2300 to the Brynhyfryd Herd, Wolfscastle. A second from Haverhill also made £2000 when Haverhill Rory Gaffy went to Jenkins, Lower House Spittal. Troedrhiw Gucci Kathleen was a calved heifer from Mesrs Williams, that made £2100 and joined the Astridge Herd in Tenby and Horwood Denver Meggie was consigned by H Wilson & Sons, Tregibby and sold to the same buyer for £2080.
