Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt held their Annual Autumn Gold Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 18th October. 230 head was sold comprising the collective section from leading West Country Breeders & herd dispersals for AC & MM Hopkins and JH & RK Kingston.

The top price of the day was 2250gns for PJ Andrews of Lower Venton Farm, Plymouth calved heifer ‘Beneknowle Montague Vaakje 9th’ out of a VG87 Dam. At 2200gns was David & Valerie Norman’s calved heifer ‘Ciderhouse Dictator Betty 2nd’. Regular consigners Roland & Simon Bugler again broke the 2000gns barrier with both cows & heifers when the 2nd calver ‘Bettiscombe Shottle Rhodian 74th’ sold for 2100gns & the calved heifer ‘Bettiscombe Jango Emerald 119th’ for 2050gns. FH Chave & Son also sold a calved heifer, ‘Peacehay Susanne 90th’ for 2000gns.

Incalf Heifers due December from AG Bennett & Son’s Lilylane herd sold for 1750gns for members of both the Pamela & Anita families.

Maiden Heifers born August 2010 sold to 940gns for JAW Bendall’s Pensdown heifers by ‘Toystory’. Heifer calves from MJ & MD Day’s ‘Cloverfields’ herd sold to 430gns. Organic British Friesian heifers from RW Barrington sold to 630gns for the November 2010 born daughters of ‘Lakemead Marke,’

Montebeliarde heifers due December for Lorsdwood Farms sold to 1420gns twice for daughters of ‘Rapalla’.

The SWCSBA also held their Annual Show & Sale with the champion roan Shorthorn Heifer ‘Hale Duchess 22nd’ from Roy Collins selling for 1680gns & Roan Heifer calves by ‘Howen Prince’ to 360gns.

Alan & Mari Hopkins decision to retire brought about the first dispersal of the day with their commercial Holstein cows selling to 1700gns for a 2nd Calver by ‘Lennox’ & the October calved heifer by ‘Moet Melody’ sold for 1920gns. Incalf Heifers due November by ‘ Overside Dragon’ sold to 1640gns. Bulling Heifers by ‘Moet Brinstar Sirius’ reached 840gns with Yearling Heifers by ‘Drake’ @ 610gns.  The heifer calves were in strong demand topping @ 450gns for a 15 day old ‘Woodmarsh Topshot’ daughter.

The second dispersal was for JH & RK Kingston with his commercial cows selling to 1320gns for the October calved 4th Calver by ‘Moet Melody’.
