Joint auctioneers Gwilym Richards and Norton and Brooksbank report another highly successful sale at Bristol with prices at the October monthly fixture peaking at 2,250gns and five making 2,000gns or more.

The top price was paid for one of seven calved heifers consigned by BB Farms of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. The early October calved heifer Hollysprings Ricardo Dixie was purchased by N Parker of Taunton, Somerset. Another of their October calved heifers Gatrog Colby Amy sold for 2,080gns to R J Davies of Gloucester. BB Farms’ consignment levelled at £1,822.50.

W J & P Puddy of Highbridge, Somerset, averaged £1,988.70 for their entry of 5 calved heifers with a best price of 2,150gns for Marcroft Satire Valerie paid by B M Coombes & Sons of Wedmore, Somerset. Their red and white heifer Marcroft RR Lulu Red sold for 2,100gns to R J Davies, Gloucester.

The other 2,000gns transaction was for the calved heifer Barvale Justice Rosabed 3 from B G & L D Rich, Gloucester, being purchased by A Alford of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.

Commercial calved Holstein heifers sold to 1,920gns and pedigree Holstein served heifers sold to 1,620gns.

Included in the October sale was a special entry of British Friesians.  Leading the prices in this section were cattle from the noted Lakemead herd of Mrs Mary Mead at Blagdon, Somerset. The eleven month old bull Lakemead Arrow sold for 1,500gns to R G Denning & Son of Truro, Cornwall.  Served heifers due to calve in March of next year sold for 1,450gns and 1,400gns, both being purchased by F G & C Tucker, Wedmore, Somerset.  Maiden heifers sold to 870gns.
