Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a cracking Christmas Cracker at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, the South West’s Premier Dairy Centre. The largest entry ever recorded at 320 head drew no less than 65 successful purchasers from as far as Cornwall, Kent, Northamptonshire & Wales, spending over £2000 no less than 40 times.

 

Taking top honours at 2300gns was ‘Peacehay Sheila 117th’ the freshly calved heifer by ‘Shoremar James’ consigned by FH Chave & Son. Close behind at 2250gns was ‘Dinnaton Jordan Colby Eclipse’ from DC Dennis who also produced the 1st prize heifer & reserve champion of the show ‘Dinnaton Igni Mist Cypress’ who sold for 2150gns.

 

The top priced cow was also the Show Champion ‘Rookhaye Roy Maria VG85’ from Rookhaye Estate. She joins CB Cooper partnerships’ well respected ‘Noremead’ herd for 2250gns. Other Vendors from the collective section with cows & heifers over 2000gns included JR & JE Wilcox ‘Sandpark’, RK & SG Miller & Sons ‘Moorshard’, SJ Rose ‘Stourvale’, WJ & P Puddy ‘Marcroft’ and RE & HE Bugler & Partners ‘Bettiscombe’.

 

D Dalton & Sons Ltd dispersed their commercial June - November calving portion & produced several top priced cows with 5 out of the top 10 prices topping at 2200gns for a November second calver by ‘Carp-Pyr Basar Brad’. The August calved ‘Lutz-Brookview Burt’ second calver that took the 2nd place in the show sold for 2150gns.

 

MPP & ED Kane are dispersing their herd as they calve & put forward 37 head which topped at 1900gns for a November calved heifer by ‘Braedale Icefyre’.

 

Incalf heifers sold to 1600gns for ‘Nevilles Komplex Astra’ due January to Angus. She was 1st prize in the Youngstock class and consigned by ET Summerfield & Son. Others sold to 1560gns for R & M Parker’s ‘Grangemore Bolivia Grey’.

 

Bulling heifers met one of the strongest trade of the year selling to 1120gns for RJ Courts ‘Nuthatch Wisconsin Rusty Red’ and averaging £950. Likewise the heifer calvf trade was on fire selling to 660gns for ‘Poynings L Shottle Jellie’ from Limekiln Dairy LLP.

 

Of the three Holstein Bulls on offer ‘Huntlodge Royal’ from LG Bagg & partners & ‘Dinnaton Calvin’ from DC Dennis both made 2000gns.
