Harrison & Hetherington celebrated its 25th Anniversary Black & White Sale in style with the best ever consignment of animals, an electric atmosphere, top prices and wonderful people. Buyers from eight countries and bidders from over thirteen nations saw prices peak at 15,000gns with the sale averaging £4215 for nearly a complete clearance.
 

 


“It’s an amazing milestone reaching the quarter centenary mark. The aim 25 years ago was to provide a marketing venue for British breeders to showcase their livestock genetics to an international and domestic audience. Harrison & Hetherington has never lost or changed its focus. The aim for the next 25 years is to continue to evolve with the industry and build upon our past experiences,” says company auctioneer Glyn Lucas.

 

Top price was a choice from the number 1 GTPI Cow in Europe, Denmire Goldwyn Marie 102 VG87, a stylish two-year old sired by Windbrook. This young cow has taken the cattle-breeding world by storm with her sons now topping the global charts. Demand for her progeny has quickly escalated as a result of genomic profiling. The choice was consigned by the Dennison family and was purchased by Koole & Liebregts, Holland for 15,000gns.

Another world famous UK cow dynasty that continues to grow in popularity is the Flo family. Bred by the Wright family from Berryholme, members from the family have this year won National Titles at the Dairy Event and All Britain calf show. A beautiful Gillette Jordan heifer from the 2010 National Holstein Champion, Berryholme Shottle Flo EX93, sold for 12,000gns to a Scottish partnership of A. Bunting & D. Yates.

A special consignment from the Haffey family in Ireland sold for 9,000gns to Ponderosa Holsteins, Spain. This stylish young heifer was sired by Aftershock and bred from the World Number 1 Type Cow, Glasson Goldwyn JD Glora VG88 2yr.

One world renowned cow family that has bred a National Champion in the USA, Canada and UK, is Tri-Day Ashlyn family. This unique consignment by Riverdane Holsteins; a stylish Shottle from Riverdane’s All Britain Durham daughter, she was bred out of the great, Ashlyn herself. This close to perfect calf sold for 8,500gns to a Scottish syndicate of D. McMiken & D. Yates.

 

The world renowned Lila Z family maintained its reputation with a fantastic consignment from the famous Willsbro herd, Cornwall. The much talked about Man –O-Man from a Shottle, descended from a Goldwyn daughter of Lila Z, offered impressive figures both in USA & Canada and sold for 8,000gns to R. McLean & Sons, N. Ireland.

 

Other interesting lots included a Dundee daughter from the world’s first pedigree with fifteen consecutive generations of Excellent scored cows. This young calf; consigned by Robbie Scott, Ayrshire, was purchased by Intelagri, China.

 

This year’s Red & White Champion at World Dairy Expo was the famous KHW Regiment Apple Red, now scored EX95. Selling from her yearling Goldwyn daughter; was a complete flush to the buyer’s choice of sire. This consignment sold for 1,500gns per embryo to T. Keatley, N. Ireland.
