Kivells annual Christmas Cracker Show and Sale at Hallworthy Stockyard, Cornwall was a huge success with the largest entry of dairy cattle seen at Hallworthy of the year! Buyers travelled from all over the Westcountry and as far as Shropshire. A packed ringside witnessed an electric trade with buyers really in the Christmas spirit and ready to spend! 13 cows and heifers sold over £2000 and all the fresh milk including heifers through to sixth calvers averaged a very creditable £1835!
Top of the day fittingly went to our overall champion and first prize heifer from T N Morrow & Partners of Truro with a non pedigree heifer by Bremer Mr Sams Moses and she sold giving 38kgs at £2350, Messrs Morrow’s consignment of six averaged £1990. Next top call was £2180 for the first prize cow from Messrs Wills Bros of Wadebridge with “Menadews Real Ruby 5 VG87” a second calver by Stanbro More. Two heifers sold at £2150 and first to do it was again from T N Morrow & Partners with “Maymor Wallen 111” by Hidden View Best and at the same money Robert and Heather Hugo of Bodmin sold a smart heifer “Rockset Minister Jackie” by Mr Minister and bred from 4 generations of VG/EX cows. The same vendors also sold a super red cow at £2050 with “Rockset Rampage Celicia Red 3 ET GP84” By Rampage Red with a great pedigree going back to Romandale Celicia PI ET EX96. At £2050 Treginegar dairy Farms of Padstow sold a cracking second calver “Woodlake Dragon Corine GP84” By Overside Dragon, their consignment averaged £1950.
In calf heifers sold exceptionally well with buyers from as far as Dorset and Shropshire as well as Devon and Cornwall keen to secure good quality heifers. There were 4 consignments of dispersal sale heifers and top was £1700 twice for a cracking consignment of 7 pedigree heifers due in January from Messrs DW & RP Dingle of Truro, these heifers sired by Devoted and Kendall averaged £1605. Messrs RJ & EE Laity & Son of Truro sold the final portion to disperse their “Carlyon” herd with their 23 in calf heifers due from January to June selling well to a top call of £1650 for “Carlyon Baxter Ricki 20” by By Emerald Acr Sa T Baxter she sold with a super pedigree due in May. Seven other heifers from “Carlyon” sold over £1500 and they averaged very well at £1381.
Messrs L Uglow of Launceston sold British Frisian in calf heifers due in January to £1500. Messrs DH & DF Shute of Launceston sold in calf heifers due Jan/Feb to £1550 and £1520. Youngstock sold well to £860 for three 13 month yearling heifers from Messrs BC & PM Cox of Callington from their “Mearfield” herd, the same vendors sold 10 July/August born heifer calves by nominated sires which sold exceptionally well to £450 and averaged £410. Robert and Heather Hugo sold a well bred bull from their “Rockset” herd by Golden-Oaks St Alexander from the Playmate family which sold well to £1500.
