The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Show and Sale of Calved Cows and Heifers also included Bulls this month as well as Embryos, Semen and a Heatime Heat Detection System.
The sale attracted an entry of 68 cows and milking heifers and 7 Bulls, Judge for the day was Mr. Elwyn Thomas of the Gatrog Herd based at Kidwelly, West Wales. For his Champion he selected Rowarton Tampa Favourite 3rd, a daughter of the homebred Wildman son, Rowarton Tampa from Roger Sutton of Astbury, Congleton. In reserve was Ingleview Decker Doll, a daughter of Decker bred from 6 generations of VG/Ex cows from Robert and Elaine Butterfield of Bentham, Lancaster.
A great crowd was in attendance and lots of interest on the phone. The content of the catalogue on paper was tremendous which no doubt created much of the interest, especially in the top bred animals. Trade was tremendous from start to finish resulting in record averages for all sections at the Club Sale.
The leading bid came for Bilsrow Alexander Shower, a lovely daughter of Golden-Oaks St Alexander bred from 7 generations of VG/Ex dams from this great family. Consigned by David and Sheila Tomlinson of Bilsborrow, Preston this second prize heifer sold for 3800 gns to Henllan Farms Ltd of Whitland, Carmarthenshire for Caeremlyn Herd.
The second top seller was the 3rd calf cow Kingold Shottle Promise (VG87 & SP) from Terry Goldstraw of Audlem who is dispersing his herd as they calve. This outstanding cow was not shown and had given 11626 kg. as a heifer; she is a daughter of Shottle and is the 6th generation of top classified cows. She now joins the Ceinwen Herd of Harri Evans at Ty Croes, Anglesey selling for 3500 gns.
Three heifers made 2900 gns each; the first was a Matson Roxy heifer from David Rees Farms selling to David Alderson of Northallerton, North Yorkshire, the next was the Reserve Champion from the Butterfields selling to T Smith & Sons for their Bumblebee Herd at Hinckley, Leicester and the third was another member of the Shower family but by Onward selling to Henllan Farms Ltd.
The sale started with the bulls which met with a phenomenal trade; the top seller was the first bull in the ring, Cockador Stormy Red from John Dawson. This son of September Storm is bred from 9 generations of VG/EX dams and sold for 3000 gns to T Lea Sherwin Ltd., Middlewich.
Embryos sold to 300 gns each and a Heat Time Heat Detection System with 100 collars sold for £6400.00
