Elite Pedigrees Impress at Carlisle
The April Border & Lakeland Show & Sale held at Carlisle’s Borderway Sale Centre offered a vast array of fresh cows and heifers from the Ayrshire, Holstein and Jersey breeds. The highlight of the sale was the mini dispersal of the NEWERA herd of Tim Winder with heifers topping at 4,200gns.
The Show was judged by Andrew Allison from Macnairston Farm in Ayr, he placed four top quality classes with his eventual Holstein Champion coming from his heifer in milk class. Ceeingred Rosedale Whiskey sired by Rosedale Touchdown-Red was bred from six generations of Excellent or Very Good and originated from the famous Meikleholm herd of Archie and Lorraine Mair. She was purchased by the judge for 1850gns and consigned by G. McCormick, Dumfries.
The Reserve Champion was consigned by W.M. Hutchinson, Redgate, Kirkby Stephen and bred from the Gail family renowned for top bulls such as Rudolph. The young, super uddered heifer was sired by Shottle and sold for 1,950gns and now joins the Woodclose herd of A & B Bargh of Woodclose in Skelton.
The top prices of the day mostly went to the young calves and heifers consigned by Tim Winder from the Newera herd in Ulverston. Topping this beautiful consignment was a daughter of Riverdane Roses Reflection and bred from Baileys Advent Ruby Red VG87 and potential tenth generation Excellent. She was in-calf to Acme (sexed) and now joins one the UK’s up and coming young breeders Mr Bob Laurence for 4,200gns.
Selling for 3,500gns was a young January calf by Picolo Red from a VG86 2yr Advent form the world renowned Penn-Gate Skychief Finesse EX95 3E with an Excellent 97 udder. This awesome young calf will be a potential bull dam in its new home for Mr. Matthew Armour of the Annandale herd.
