The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Show and Sale attracted an entry of just 36 cattle, of which 31 were forward on the day, for its April Sale at Beeston on Friday, 27th April but what the sale lacked in quantity it more than made up in quality.
Judge was Mr. Harri Evans of the noted Anglesey based Ceinwen Herd. For his Champion he selected Bilsrow Drake Rolls from David, Sheila and James Tomlinson of Bilsborrow, Preston with another Lancashire bred heifer in reserve; this was Fordswood Goldwyn Celeste 3rd ET from Howard Walmsley, Pilling, Preston.
As has been the case in most of the recent sales held under the Club banner, quality has been very good for both pedigree and commercial use with plenty of milky heifers with strength and width and great udders forward for sale.
There were seven animals all with deep pedigrees that led the sale selling from 2900 gns to 3500 gns with the sale leader being a Weeton bred heifer consigned by Maurice Richardson of Barnburgh, Nr.Doncaster; Weeton Buckeye J Helen is a daughter of R E W Buckeye and has three dams all classified Excellent on the maternal line. She sold to Dylan Jones, Edern, Pwllheli.
Next in line at 3250 gns was the Cornish bred Willsbro Million Gold Lust ET consigned by Cameron Baty. This beautiful daughter of Million has two VG-2yr sisters and is from 10 generations of cows classified in the top two grades from the great Lustre family. She sold to David Alderson of Northallerton, North Yorkshire. At just 50 gns less was the Champion female from the Tomlinsons who sold for 3200 gns to Philip Sinker of Warrington; he gets a great heifer by Drake with two VG sisters and bred from 8 generations of VG/EX dams.
Another Million daughter, Nobold England Sara ET from Michael Roberts of Shrewsbury sold for 3000 gns to Stephen and Olivia Sherratt of Stalybridge; for their money they get a great grand daughter of the renowned Copywood Integrity Sara with a total of seven generations of top classified dams.
Three heifers sold for 2900 gns each; the first was another Lustre by Shottle from Stan Price that went to the Sherratt’s. the second was the Reserve Champion from Howard Walmsley, a Goldwyn with three Excellent dams that was the choice of Wil and Louise Glenn of Distinctive Holsteins, Warrington and the third was another Goldwyn daughter, Nobold Goldie Arlene ET whose dam was the 2009 Royal Show Champion, Hendomen Arlen 20th (Ex93-4yr) (Ex96-MS), from Michael Roberts of Shrewsbury selling to A & V Wallbank of Longridge, Preston.
