<<< Back to Sale Reports

Trade was very much better than anticipated considering the wet weather and another milk buyer announcing a drop in price on the morning of the dispersal sale of the Summer and Autumn calving Woldtop herd of Holsteins for Jan and Roger Rowe at Whittington, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

A very large crowd from the Midlands, South West and Wales descended on the Cotswold Hills farm with a top price of 2,300gns being paid for the calved heifer Woldtop Hatley Bluff.  The Coldsprings Hatley daughter had given 8,415kgs since calving last August and still giving 41.4kgs daily.  She was due in October to Sandy Valley X Ray.  The buyers were Steve Waters and his sons, one of 15 they purchased for their herd at Redwick on the banks of the river Severn in Monmouthshire.

Second best price was 2,250gns paid by Will and Sarah May of Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, for the second calver Woldtop Detective Jill.  The Cook Farm Detective daughter had recorded 10,500kg as a heifer and was due again in December to Bomaz Stratton.

Fred Simcock of Ledbury, Herefordshire, was in fine form purchasing 33 milking cattle in all including a heifer by Jeffanan Outside Voyage.  Woldtop Voyage Bluebell had calved in September last year and was calving again this September.

Served heifers sold to 1,750gns for the late August calving Wa Del Hayden daughter Woldtop Hayden Diana.  She was purchased by Buckinghamshire buyers P J Johnson & Sons of Aylesbury.

Paul Brown of Kings Norton, Birmingham, bought the top priced heifer calf at 800gns.  The 10 month old Picston Shottle sired calf was off two generations of 11,000kgs dams.

The dairy equipment also sold very well with £16,000 being paid for the 18/36 Westfalia Surge parlour, £3,000 for the Westfalia sorting gate, £6,200 for the 10,400 litre Fabdec milk tank and £1,500 for the heat exchange unit.
