Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an exceptional trade across the board for their monthly summer collective sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 26th June.

The day started with the collective fresh milk which topped at 2450gns for ‘Bettiscombe Toystory Lena’ from the ‘Ex91 Sabrina’ family that calved at the beginning of June and was giving 34 kgs and was purchased by the Gazzard family from Gloucestershire. At 2350gns was the heifer ‘Ebble Tennyson Erica’ from Kevin and Yvonne Follett who sold their milking herd in April and are dispersing their heifers as they calve. Three superb heifers from CFJ & JA Bishop’s ‘Curscombe’ herd sold for 2300gns twice and 2200gns.

Freshly calved cows sold for 2400gns for first time consigners ‘Tarver Park Farms’ from Worchester with their ‘Trioak Talent Piano GP84’ a 2nd calver who had given 9000 kgs as a heifer. ‘Bettiscombe Dictator Pinkie’ and ‘Bettiscombe Dictator Delia 2nd’ both 2nd calvers from Roland and Simon Bugler sold for 2250gns.

Also at 2250gns was the December calved 2nd lactation ‘Jordan’ cow from the herd dispersal of John Rook (Manor Farm) Ltd, Portsmouth. Their in calf heifers met an exceptional trade with purchasers appreciating the years of breeding dedicated to the herd by the late Ian Rook. The ‘Shottle’ daughter due August to ‘Focus’ sold for 1900gns with an ‘Autumn- Ridge Matson’ daughter at 1820gns. The 34 incalf heifers due August to January averaged £1602.

From the collective section ‘Lilylane Priceless Nora 23rd’ from Les and Karen Bennett due July sold for 1740gns. The only bull forward on the day sold for 1700gns from DC Dennis & Sons ‘Dinnaton Century’.

An electric trade for the yearling and younger heifers saw a top of 900gns for a August 2011 ‘Shottle’ daughter from John Rook (Manor Farm) Ltd.

A day which generated an excellent crowd produced 51 different successful purchasers with cattle travelling back to Cornwall, Worcester, Carmarthen and Shropshire.
