<<< Back to Sale Reports

The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Show and Sale of Freshly calved cows and heifers attracted an entry of 69 head for its June event. Judge for the day was Louise Glenn who runs the Distinctive Herd with her husband, Will, atDutton, Nr. Warrington. She chose her Champion for a heifer from the noted Alderbarrow Herd of Brian and Leonora

Whitfield based at Wem, Shropshire; Alderbarrow Buckeye Star is a daughter of REW Buckeye and bred from 9successive generations of VG/Ex dams. In reserve was Knowlesmere Mailing Gemma, a daughter of Polykow Mailing, from Andrew and Jane Whittaker of Weston-under Redcastle, Shropshire.

Trade was very good with only one animal failing to find a new home; still plenty of demand for milky heifers with strength and width and for those heifers with the good pedigrees. Top price was 3000 gns which was achieved on two occasions; the first at this price was Neatishall Rocky Maureen Red from Louis and Fran Baugh (JH & PE Nicholson Ltd) of Norwich with their red and white daughter of Baileys Red Rock out of a VG89 dam by Talent. She was purchased by John Allen for his Leaventhorpe Herd based at Tutbury, Staffordhire who also purchased the other joint top seller, the Champion heifer, Alderbarrow Buckeye Star at the same figure.

John Allen also purchased the third top seller, the superbly bred Fordswood Final Rhapsody from Howard Walmersley of Garstang; Fordswood Final Rhapsody was sired by Gillette Final Cut and out of Fordswood Astro Rhapsody ET (VG87), a 12th generation cow bred in the top two grades. At 2500 gns Messrs Nicholson sold their Neatishall

Advantage Pollula, a daughter of Rosedale Advantage Red for 2500 gns to F H Apperley & Sons of Marchamley, Shropshire and at 2400 gns the very smart Aintree Damion Bunty 2nd to Aintree Holsteins.

The Nicholsons also sold the top priced cow, Neatishall Damion Cora (VG87- 3yr), a third calf daughter of Erbacres Damion for 2200 gns to Fred Mason for his Maybar Herd at Preston.
