The reduction sale of the milking portion from the Highwhinnow Holstein herd was held on behalf of J&J Taylor from Thursby, Carlisle on Thursday 27th June.

 

This well developed herd of top quality dairy cattle was made of up fresh calved and in calf cows and heifers, also spring calvers, which can be traced back to the noted Weeton breeding through the use of many top sires.  The sale saw seven entries be sold for 2,000gns and over.

 

Topping the sale at 3,000gns was an entry late in sale, Highwhinnow Rocko Ena.  This second calver, a daughter of Stannock Rocko and out of the 9335kg Haldrey Leadership bred mother.  This eye catching entry sold to Messrs Watson of Highfield, Ayrshire.

 

Following at 2,800gns was another Stannock Rocko daughter, this time Highwhinnow Rocko Fleur also a second calved cow who had given over 10,500kgs in her first lactation.   She also travels to Ayrshire for Messrs Watson.

 

Selling for 2,650gns was the fresh calved fifth cow, Highwhinnow Royal Ontario.  Sired by Dalebank Patron Royal and out of a Rijen Aerostar bred mother, this high yielding entry was also on the lorry for Ayrshire for Messrs Watson.

 

The sale attracted many local milk producers and breeders, also buyers travelling from Shropshire in the south and Ayrshire in the north.
