The Golden Opportunity Sale proved just that when Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt held the annual sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre in conjunction with the ‘Orchard’ & ‘Barrina’ dispersal for CDG Green & Sons of Wareham, Dorset.

Despite continuing problems caused by the relentless and unseasonal weather and falling milk prices the dairy ring was packed to the rafters, producing 71 different purchasers from Cornwall to Wales and Sussex.  Fresh milk sold to 2500gns for ‘Tregibby Million Rae’ from first time consigners DR & BM Thomas from Carmarthenshire with numerous generations of VG and EX behind her and out of a ‘Sahara’ cow she was also entered in the spotlight sale and was purchased by Stuart Angel of Dorset for this ‘Pegasus’ herd.

Ian Dimond’s superb run of freshly calved heifers sold to 2220gns for ‘Dorset Vaki Fable’ that was by the homebred ‘Dorset Victor’ sire, whose maternal brother ‘Dorset Victory’ from the renowned ‘Vaakje’ family and by ‘Ginary Twister’ topped the bulls selling at 2000gns.  2nd calvers from RE & HE Bugler & Partners ‘Bettiscombe’ herd sold to 1900gns for ‘Dictator Emerald 117th (GP83)' that had given 10,961 kgs as a heifer.

First time consigners ‘Longmoor Farm Partners’ topped the incalf heifers at 1900gns for the Red & White ‘Cherwell Savard Dimple Red 2nd' due August.

The youngstock trade was on fire with bulling heifers down to calves wanted in large quantities. 50 Bulling heifers from Lulworth Castle Farms generated considerable interest and sold to 1180gns for ‘Poynings D Manifold Pola’ born March 2011.  The youngstock dispersal for MJ & MD Day’s ‘Cloverfields’ herd in Cornwall saw May born heifer calves selling to 520gns for ‘Cloverfields Altarush Carol’.
