Despite the recent weather & milk price cuts, quality youngstock still sold to a premium at the Inaugral Spotlight Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre.

In front of a large West Country crowd auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt sold Wiltor Observer Shaz for 4600gns, she is bred from a VG88 2 year old Bolton that goes back to an excellent Full sister to the mighty Picston Shottle, she was bred by David & Claire Jones, Monmouthshire and now joins the Wanstrow herd of RA Pole, Shepton Mallet.

Sterndale Larson Rose Red, who travelled all the way from Derbyshire was arguably the top show calf on offer and traces back through show winners to the Legendary Stookey Elm Park Blackrose. spirited bidding achieved 3700gns selling to Derek Mead for his Lynchmead herd.

Mr Mead was in fine form purchasing a number of cattle including the next top price calf at 3200gns for the well-bred Moorshard G Windbrook Shower bred by regular Sedgemoor vendors Randolph & Brian Miller. The calf had 4 straight generations of Excellent and its dam has produced over 17,000kgs on more than one occasion.

Another well-travelled consignment came from the world-renowned breeders Mark & Susan Knutsford of the Riverdane herd who brought a Talent from their top red Show Cow Corringham Bob Roxy which achieved 3000gns.

The Sale was well supported both locally and from far with strong support from Cornwall to West Wales which resulted in only four animals unsold.

A more challenging embryo trade resulted in a top of 560gns for Sahara Holsteins consignment of 3 Numero Uno’s from a granddaughter of Regancrest-PR Barbie selling to Ian & Max Davies for their Davlea herd
