The July edition of the Border & Lakeland Show & Sale took place at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 18th in front of a huge crowd of buyers from England, Scotland, Wales & N. Ireland. Buyers had a complete choice of high yielding heifers with outstanding udders and feet & legs. Considering the recent turmoil caused by the unnecessary milk price cuts and the atrocious summer weather top quality dairy cattle are still in high demand, however it was evident to see a reduction in value of any animal displaying the slightest flaw or discrepancy.
The show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Cogent and the judge was Andrew Jones owner of the renowned “Rossett” herd in North Wales. His overall champion was Stowbeck Baroque Allen 2 consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms, she was sired by Magor Baroque Lillibet and from a VG 86 Crichel Principal Dam with over 11,000kgs. She sold for the top price of the day realising 2,500gns and now joins the herd of M Reid & Sons, Fulton, Lockerbie. The Reserve Champion was Bowberhill Talent Doll she placed second in her class alongside the overall Champion. This super uddered heifer was sired by Ladino Park Talent from the Crudwell Warden Doll EX94 family. She was consigned by W.M. Hutchinson and sold for 2,000gns to JJ Henderson & Son, Park House Farm, Dalston.
Other top prices included Stowbeck Sam Lill again consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms. She was sired by Regancrest Mr Sam and traced back to the Lill family from the Bridgeend herd. She sold for 2,400gns to N&SJ Sanderson, Burtholme Farm, Brampton.
The Niscot herd dispersed their milking herd last spring at Borderway and they have been consistently selling their top quality heifers as they freshen each month with notable success. Selling for 2,300gns was a daughter of Nor-Bert Calypso from Dirigo Ches Paige EX93 she now enters the herd of A&I Lamont, Sandieston Farm, Renfrewshire.
