The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Show and Sale attracted an entry of 57 Cows and Heifers for its July event. Judge for the day was Nigel Kennerley of the Kenbow Herd based at Bowden, Nr. Altrincham. For his champion Nigel chose Sterndale Airys Sanchez ET from WJ Nadin & Co of Earl Sterndale, Buxton with Bidlea KPI Fayne 11th from Ray Brown & Partners of Holmes Chapel in reserve.

Despite the wonderful harvesting conditions and the uncertainty in the milk industry, trade was surprisingly very fast with plenty of commercial buyers in attendance and a total clearance effected achieving an average in excess of £2300 for the heifers which is one of the best ever. It should be stressed that quality was very good throughout with only a few second quality heifers forward.

It was a great day for Steve Boow of the Millom, Cumbria based Dunnerdale Herd who not only had the top priced lot at 4000 gns but also had two others at 3400 gns and 3000 gns. His top seller was Dunnerdale Toystory Sabrina 3rd, a 26 month old daughter of the EX90 Goldwyn Sabrina 4th with two EX94 110 tonnes beyond that. She had calved five weeks, was sold giving 40 kg daily and was purchased by the Baltier Farming Co of Whithorn, Wigtownshire who also purchased another Toystory daughter from the same home for 3000 gns; this was Toystory Aldina who has six generations of Excellent dams in direct line as well as having an Excellent sister. The other Dunnerdale heifer to make it into the the top sellers list was Million Stella who sold to Adrian Jones for his Garthmyl Herd at Welshpool.

The only other heifer to break the 3k barrier was the Champion; Sterndale Airys Sanchez ET has 8 generations of VG/Ex dams behind her and is from the same family as the $1,000,000 Apple. She sold for 3500 gns to Baltier.
