<<< Back to Sale Reports

On Wednesday 8th August at Borderway, Carlisle the first sale to disperse the well known Monyruy Holstein herd took place. The herd is owned by the Mair family from Aberdeenshire, they have invested in many top animals over the last number of decades from the UK’s leading herds.  The animals sold were averaging over 40kgs with many classified in the top grades.  The weather has affected everyone this year and although the sun was shining for a change it did mean many important buyers were missing from ring side as silage making and harvesting took priority.

Top price was paid for Monruy Igniter Duchess VG87, a daughter of Summershade Igniter from a tremendous line of the famous Powis Duchess family.  She was a young co in her second and back in calf for the new year to Ballycairn Tiergan who is currently one of the UK’s highest index sires.  This very high yielding cow sold for 3,100gns and now joins the herd of Messrs Kellett & Son of White House Farm, Hexham.

Second on the price chart was Monyruy Phil Gina VG85 2yr sired by Dalbytop Phil.  This very stylish show heifer had calved back in January and was due again in January to Woodmarsh Asterix.  On her last test she was recorded giving 36kgs and was bred from a fourteen thousand kilo dam.  She sold for 2,600gns and now joins the herd of Seymour Farms of Leegate, Cumbria.

One of the cow families that have been very successful at Monyruy was the Ruby’s from Kepculloch originally from Bricknell.  Selling for 2,200gns was Monyruy Dictator Ruby VG87 sired by Overside Dictator, unfortunately her dam was unclassified but from her grand dam back there was eight direct Excellent generations.  This beautiful uddered cow calved back in February and was bred back to Ballycairn Tiergan, she was purchased by Messrs D F Forsyth of Baltier Farm, Newton Stewart.

The highest yielding heifers in the herd and one of the highest yielding heifers to ever sell at Borderway was Monyruy Foreman Dora G75 giving 49kgs.  She was sired by Berryholme Foreman (Damion from Holmland Strom Flo) from a VG 87 dam sired by Niscot BW Jack (full brother to Xacabeo).  She traced back to the original Deveronside herd and with her tremendous power, udder and feet & legs has the potential to develop into an impressive Excellent cow in the future.  She sold for 2,150gns to N & K Forshaw of Meadowside, Preston.

Colin & Bruce Mair would like to thank everyone who supported their first sale and wish everyone much success.  They would like to welcome you all back to their next sale which is planned for October and will comprise all the freshly calved cows and heifers.
