Red and White was very much the in demand colour at Greenslade Taylor Hunts’ Annual Autumn Gold Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 23rd October.

The day commenced with the collective milk from leading South West Breeders where a superb Red and White 2nd calver from regular consigners Roland and Simon Bugler, ‘Bettiscombe Shaquille Emerald Red 121st (GP84)’, sold for 2350gns.  Other cows to 2000gns were ‘Bettiscombe Bolivia Nanette’ also from the Buglers, ‘Beneknowle Delovely Amy 35th’ from PJ Andrews and ‘Moorshard Aztec Dee (GP84)’ from RK & SG Miller & Sons.

Sharing top honours was the Red and White heifer ‘Marcroft Accolade Issy Mouse Red’ by the ‘Accolade Red’ sire, she also sold for 2350gns.  She was one of seven homebred heifers consigned by WJ & P Puddy to average an impressive £2200.00

The heifer trade was strong on the day with no less than 20 heifers selling for 2000gns and over for Ashlea Farm Services ‘Ashlea’, Ian Dimond ‘Dorset’, RK & SG Miller ‘Moorshard’, RE & HE Bugler ‘Bettiscombe’, RT Cox ‘Holmead’, BL Davies & Son ‘Davlea’ and Longmoor Farm  Partners ‘Longmoor’.

Incalf heifers were also in demand, in particular ‘AJ Bennett & Sons’ well bred ‘Lilylane’ heifers which sold to 2000gns for ‘Lilylane Goldsmith Pat 15th’ by the homebred ‘Lilylane Goldsmith’ sire, she descended from the ‘Springbird Mock Pat PI (VG86)’ as did the potential show heifer, ‘Lilylane Outside Pat 13th’ who sold for 1900gns.  All 11 heifers were due November/December to ‘Lilylane Duplex ET’ and averaged £1817.50.

Holstein Bulls met a more selective trade with the stronger bulls sought after and selling to 1500gns for the Buglers’ ‘Bettiscombe Eagle’ by ‘Shottle’ and out of the Excellent classified ‘Ebony’ family.

The collective youngstock section saw bulling heifers to 880gns for WTR Ash & Sons’ ‘Pinksmoor Cedric Lyn 2nd’.  Younger commercial heifers from WE Turner & Son sold to 740gns.
