Hot Trade at Holsworthy!
Kivells Auctioneers had a cracking entry of
120 dairy cattle for their mid-month dairy sale at Holsworthy in Devon which
saw saw a phenomenal trade! We saw a packed ringside with several buyers
leaving empty handed as the competition for top quality heifers was RED HOT! With 7 heifers flying over £2000,
50% of the fresh calved heifers
averaged a very impressive £2051!
Top of the day was £2400 for Ciderhouse Matson Tammy a fresh heifer sired
by Autumn Ridge Matson, she was bred from 11 generations of VG or EX cows from
Mr JG Mitchell, Lostwithiel who also sold another Ciderhouse bred heifer at
£2000 and his consignment of three heifers went onto average £2117. The next
top price was £2350 for Lanawood Blackie
233 a beautiful fresh heifer sired by homebred bull Lanawood Roger on behalf Roger Vanstone of Holsworthy.
Two more heifers sold at £2300 and first to
do it was Kemerton Outbound Rinze 84 a
super Schilldale Outbound daughter on
behalf of Messrs Treginegar Dairy Farm, Padstow. Also at £2300 was a powerful
heifer Ashdon White Lilac 63 by Windy
Knoll View 4 Acres from Mark & Lyn Bray of Barnstaple who also sold another
Hilkleigh bred heifer very well at
£2050. At £2120 Gordon Davis of Tiverton sold Heddonvalley Connie 32 a Picston Shottle daughter.
Very few cows on offer but the best sold
well to £1750 for Lanawood Blackie 212 a
third calver sired by Nor Bert Calypso on behalf of Roger Vanstone, Holsworthy.
In calf heifers sold to a fierce trade
topping at £1750 for Harpoon Sensation
Mary due March to Aberdeen Angus sold on behalf of Mr S Jeffery, Crediton,
he also had heifers to £1720 and £1680. Mr GW and SP Bromell, Bideford sold in
calf heifers to £1700 for Affaland
Goldsmith Shirley.
A consignment of bulling heifers on behalf
of the Hoppatown herd for Arthur Burnard of Pyworthy sold to a top of £860. An
excellent run of Organic yearling heifers from Burny Worth of Ilfracombe also
saw spirited bidding and the best group of 8 sold to £860 with other groups to
£810. This consignment of 28 averaged very well at £766.
A consignment of Jersey youngstock from
Messrs JD & JA Yewdall of Bideford sold to £680 for a heifer due in June.
Weaned cross bred calves sold to £260 from the same vendor. A Holstein Friesian
Heifer calf from Messrs WJ Watkins & Son sold at £280.
