Top Quality Sells At Borderway
On Wednesday 20th February the Border
& Lakeland dairy sale took place at Borderway, Carlisle. The show was sponsored
by Pfizer and Cogent and was judged by Johnstone Rae from Bogghead Farm,
Dumfries. The quality on offer was high with super cows and heifers all freshly
calved and giving large volumes of milk from the UK’s leading breeders. Almost
one hundred head was sold to a packed ring of buyers including some non
registered cattle to almost average £2000.
Littlecoop Breeze 68 was the overall Champion she was
consigned by S. Moor & Son, Littlecoop Hosue Farm, Hawthorn, County Durham. She was sired by Ardross Sterling from a VG
Samuelo dam. She oozed style and class with an amazing high and wide udder she
sold for 2,700gns to Stuart Braid, Dumfries from the Murthat herd.
Boclair Triumphant Joan 2 was Reserve Champion and
was consigned by J. Brewster, Boclair Farm, Glasgow. She was sired by Boclair Triumphant, her dam
was Very Good with over 12,000kg followed by three more Excelent classified
cows. She sold for 2,300gns to N &
SJ Sanderson of Burtholme Farm, Brampton.
The top price of the day went to Wormanby Jeeves
Princess consigned by H.M. & D. Hodgson, Wormanby Farm, Carlisle. She was bred from two Excellent dams sired by
Shottle and Formation respectively and placed second in the Junior heifer
class. She had a very nice combination
of both dairy strength and dairyness with a fantastic udder she sold for
2,900gns to C & L Mair of Townhead Farm, Dumfries.
The Boclair herd sold five heifers in total with
two selling for 2,500gns to N & SJ Sanderson of Burtholme Farm, Brampton. First
was Boclair Triumphant Gypsy 2 bred from three generation of Excellent or Very
good dams and giving 35kgs. Second was Boclair Shottle Gypsy 2, she had placed
first in the Junior Heifer class sired by Shottle and again bred from three
generation of long lasting Excellent or Very Good dams.
The Gillespie family from High Plouglands, Carlisle
sold three heifers to top at 2,400gns for Ploughlands Bonair Joan 2. She was
sired by Karona Bonair giving 36kgs and traced back to Lemington TI Joan EX93
4E LP70. She was purchased by J & H
Somerville of Larglea Farm, Dumfries.
