4 DAIRY COWS AT 3000GNS FOR CULVERHAYES

Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt were delighted with the trade for the Lady Day Collective Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre where 48 different buyers from Cornwall to West Wales were active. The sale was enhanced by Tim and Mandy Reed’s ‘Culverhayes’ reduction sale of 60 cows and heifers plus heifer calves and they were responsible for four of the top prices achieved on the day.

The first at 3000gns was ‘Culverhayes Lennon Odyssey VG85-2yr’, she was bred from an Excellent 93 pointed Drake that traces back to the renowned ‘Odyssey Chief Mark Ina (VG89)’ she sold to Messers Hussel of Cornwall for their ‘Perrins’ herd who also picked up ‘Dictator Odyssey’ at the same price. Another ‘Odyssey’ also reached the 3000gns mark selling to a well known Somerset herd.

‘Culverhayes Talent Amanda (VG85-2yr)’ out of a show cow sold for 3000gns to Mr Reed at Cullompton, her EX92 full sister sold to 2500gns. A very good heifer calf trade saw 560gns for ‘Culverhayes Greg Ivy’ others at 550gns and 520gns twice.

Once again in the fresh milk section best quality sold to great demand with the heifer from Terry Cox’s ‘Holmead’ herd from Dorset selling to 2500gns, she was bred from ‘Wiltor Outside Tessie Ex94’ and sold to the Andrews Family from Beneknowle. Other heifers sold to 2400gns for ‘Hemburyfort Quickstep’ from Derek Pyle at Exeter. RE & HE Bugler sold to 2200gns twice, other vendors to exceed 2000gns were CRJ & JA Bishop, DC Dennis & Son, RK & SG Miller & Son, G Morgan and JC Palmer.

Cows topped at 2420gns for DC Dennis and Sons’ third calver ‘Dinnaton Bona Breakout Eclipse’ which travelled into West Wales. Others to exceed £2000 were from MJ & JR Monckton.

Incalf heifers from Lulworth Castle Farms topped at 1480gns for ‘Poynings Baxter Topsy’.

The youngstock trade was electric with bulling heifers from ‘Lillyane’ selling to 1120gns for ‘Lillylane Buster Erty 37th’ and 9 month old heifers selling to 820gns from MJ & MD Day’s Cornish ‘Cloverfields’ herd twice for ‘Alta Rush’ and ‘Alta Gratis’ sired heifers.

Top priced bull at 2050gns was achieved for ‘Cloverfields Aruduolf Cornish Mouse Red’ red & white bred in Cornwall by Michael Day and purchased by a Cornish breeder.
