GOLDWYN HEIFER SPARKLES IN THE SNOW!
4700 GNS TOP BID AT BEESTON FOCUS MILK
The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Focus Milk Show and Sale of Pedigree Holstein Fresh Calvers attracted a small entry of just 53 animals catalogued. It was just as well as the weather conditions were atrocious as Beeston received a deluge of snow overnight and on the morning of sale it was fairly bleak to say the least.
Alan Smith of Bumblebee Holsteins braved the weather and travelled up from Leicestershire to act as Judge and for his Champion he selected Styche Outside Sally from from Seaton Farms of Audlem as his Champion. This heifer is a lovely daughter of Comestar Outside with a quite outstanding pedigree; she has nine generations of VG/EX dams in direct line behind her as well as having a (VG88-2yr) sister. In Reserve was a fresh second calf cow, Birchcross Goldwyn Empress from Harold and Pat Crapper of Dronfield, Derbyshire.
The severe weather certainly did not help attendance and as a result trade was a little unpredictable; some sold far in excess of expectations and some looked a good buy.
The top price of 4700 gns was achieved for a superbly bred heifer with a great pedigree and she was not shown! Holmland Goldwyn Petula ET was the only entry this month from Steve and Patricia Bell of Penrith but she certainly drew much attention; this daughter of Goldwyn had already been scored (VG87-2yr) and was the 10th generation of animals scored in the top two grades featuring the 58* brood cow La Presentation Daurel (Ex) as her 4th dam. This beautiful uddered heifer had been calved a month and sold to join the Cracking Herd of CSA Brassington & Son based at Roden, Shropshire who also purchased the second top seller, Dunnerdale Talent Sabrina 7th from Steve Boow of Millom, Cumbria. This daughter of Talent who has 8 generations of VG/EX dams behind her is bred from the best family in the herd and was sold five weeks calved giving 32 kg.
The third top seller was the Champion from Seaton Farms which sold for 3000 gns to join the Baltier Farming Company’s large herd at Whithorn, Wigtownshire. She was sold giving 35 kg and is certainly one to look out for in the future. Baltier also purchased the next top seller, Hendy Allen Bethan, a daughter Magor Baroque Allen from Aled Jones, Caernarforn for 2600 gns.
Cows sold to 2200 gns for the Reserve Champion going to JG & CA Bayley. Nuneaton and in-calf heifers topped at 2000 gns for a May calving Jeeves daughter from JF Temple & Son Ltd of Norfolk.
