Super sale for Hasworth Milking herd

A fantastically level trade in front of a large crowd from 12 different counties, stretching from Ceredigion to Staffordshire, provided an excellent result when Messrs D.J.H Hope & Son sold their entire milking portion and close calving heifers on farm just outside Gloucester on Tuesday this week. The atmosphere was buzzing with buyers packed in to the sale area with the cattle close by watching proceedings and contented in their natural surroundings.

A large contingent of Welsh dairy farmers were in good form, claiming a quarter of the stock on offer. It was clear that several buyers left empty handed as the trade never slackened after lot 1 made 2,000 guineas. In fact 42% of the cattle made 2,000 guineas or more with just two topping 3,000 guineas. The level nature of the trade saw many animals in full milk sell between 2,000 and 2,500 guineas.

One of the features of the sale were the 19 daughters of Golden-Oaks St Alexander, that averaged an impressive £2,404 - £500 above the overall sale average.

Top price was 3,300 guineas paid for Hasworth Dynamo Candy 114 EX90, lot 57, that had given 13,299kg in her second lactation and sold 2 months fresh giving 53kg. This superb daughter of Netherside Dynamo travels to Moylegrove in Ceredigion to join the Frerni herd of Mr R Howell.

The second highest price of 3,000 guineas was paid for the owner’s favourite cow, Hasworth Mr Gold Christobel EX-92 2E, by Mount Pleasant Farm in Warwickshire. This outstanding daughter of Abbeyhouse Mr Gold has produced 13,481kg in her 3rd note and sold 5 months into her 5th giving 37kg. Her dam was a 15,000kg Shottle, also Excellent .

Leading buyer was Chris Shield from Arlingham, a few miles down the River Severn, who secured 30 high quality animals for his Horseshoe herd.

Trade of the day looked to be for the served heifers that averaged in excess of £2,100, selling up to 2,700 guineas.
