Spring Fever tops at 2350gns twice

Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a more selective trade than of late at their Annual Spring Fever Collective Sale held at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 23rd April.  With over 40 individual buyers from Cornwall to Worcestershire quality and strength was as ever in demand with the best selling to a significant advantage and the second quality a touch back being a reflection of the current weather and forage situation.

The day topped at 2350 guineas twice, firstly for a very smart “Bolton” heifer giving 30kgs from FG Summerhayes and Son, Honiton.  The second at 2350gns was Roland & Simon Bugler’s ‘Bettiscombe Goldstar El Matt’, currently giving 32kgs she travels back to Dorset to a dairy that picked the best of the day taking home four out of the five topped priced cows and heifers.  Other heifers from the collective sale sold to 2100gns for Finefarm Ltd’s homebred “Combwich Juryman Emmie”.

The top priced cow at 2250gns was also consigned by ‘Bettiscombe’ being a ‘Mr Sam Morna’ who was giving 45kgs with a low cell count.  Other cows sold to 1950gns for Longmoor Farm Partners’ ‘Barleypark Shottle Patsy’.

The first of the day’s dispersals travelled all the way from Buckinghamshire being PR & SA Manley’s latest consignment to disperse their organic ‘Primehill’ herd, they sold to 2020gns for the “VG86 Askew Reece” daughter, ‘Primehill Fiona’ who was freshly calved and giving 39kgs.

The second dispersal was for Andy Neill Farm Services who had brought a non recorded commercial herd down to Sedgemoor from Staffordshire and met a consistently good trade selling to 1750gns twice for a freshly calved cow giving 37kgs and a freshly calved heifer.

The youngstock trade was impressive with commercial Incalf Heifers selling to 1660gns for LS Pow & Son for a “Wa-del Hayden” heifer incalf to the pedigree Hereford, others to 1600gns for W Maidment Ltd. Bulling heifers sold to 1060gns for AJ Bennett & Sons ‘Lilylane Evolve Katrina’, sired by a genomic leader and tracing back to the Glen-Drummond Shower family.  Commercial yearlings sold to 840gns for a “Regancrest Baltimor” daughter from CJ White & Partners who entered at late notice. Commercial heifer calves topped at 510gns twice for BR & IJ Spiller & Sons.
