The Staffordshire Celebration Sale
Averages - 98 Holsteins £1784
Auctioneers - Leek Auctions LTD
The sun was shining, but despite the good weather and the need for local farmers to get on with the field work, by 9am Leek Auction Mart was jam packed with buyers from across the UK.
At 9.30am Mr Alan Smith of Bumblebee Holsteins in Leicestershire took on the role of judge for the show portion of the Staffordshire Holstein Clubs 'Holstein Celebration sale.' Mr Smith did a tremendous job of judging and in the end tapped out Lot 50 from JD and BF Broadley's Brundcliffe Herd Brundcliffe Loader Gail as Champion. This fresh two year old displayed everything Mr Smith wanted in an animal and her width and dairy character was what gave her the advantage over Reserve Champion, Lot 28, a Scientific SS Dusk Milking Heifer from TH Cope and Son, Huddlesford Dusk Sweetness, who towered above the competition and her show style made her an easy reserve.
Come 11am the sale kicked off with great enthusiasm. Top Price on the day was in fact the Honourable mention of the show from avid supporter of the Staffordshire Holstein Club Robert Parkinson of the great Wilona Herd this was milking 2yr old Wilona Shottle Ruby 14 she realised the great price of £2900 and went to the Judges herd at Bumblebee Hall in Leicestershire. Next on the top sellers list was Lot 80 again from Parkinson Partners another daughter of Picston Shottle this time a beautiful in calf heifer; Wilona Shottle Golda 10 this one went to P Swindell and Family of Chelmorton, Derbyshire at the great price of £2700. Alan Smith again took the next two top prices home Lot 12 at £2380 and Lot 50 at £2340 they were respectively Cramar Drake G Lottie from the Cramar herd of Rodger & Dianne Steeples; and then the Champion Brundcliffe Loader Gail From the Broadley Family.
Lots 83-100 were a special entry of maiden heifers from the Pearce Family's Shelton Herd, that is currently averaging 9531kgs at 4.5%F and 3.16%P Sires featured in this selection were Picston Shottle, Lynncrest Zebra, Emmark Mammoth, Overseal Golden Boy, Rockali Bradley and Winton Roxsout. These maiden heifers were a great feature of the sale from long time supporters of the Staffordshire Holstein Club and averaged £890
All in all it was a great sale with the top 5 prices realising over £2300 and 11 lots making £2000+. The Staffordshire Holstein Breeders Club would like to thank Bagshaws for their help in organising and running the sale as smooth as it did, Sterling Sires for their support in donating 30 Straws of Huddlesford Sonato to the purchaser of the highest price, to the Judge Mr Alan Smith for taking time out to officiate and also to John Lomax and Kelly Woodcock for manning the refreshments throughout the day.
