LLANVAIR HOLSTEINS TO 3,000GNS
Top price at the dispersal sale for Alun and Sally Morgan and their daughter Caroline Andrews at Llanvair Discoed, near Chepstow, was 3,000gns.
Attracting this leading bid was one of Caroline’s cows Richaven Squawbuck Birdy 2, a VG87 2nd calver by Richaven Squawbuck. She had calved in January and was served in April to England Ammon Million. Making the top bid were J M & B S Jones of Caldicot, Monmouthshire.
Her 15 month old Picston Shottle sired daughter sold for 1,800gns to P G Williams, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.
Leading buyers at the sale were J Tamplin & Son of Caerphilly who are re-establishing their dairy herd. Forming part of their load of 12 cattle was the 2,300gns 2nd calver Llanvair Shottle Countess VG86. This daughter of Picston Shottle gave 8,456kgs as a heifer and was giving 34.9kgs when sold. Her England Ammon Million sired 4 month old heifer calf sold for 800gns to Pembrokeshire buyer P G Williams.
The sale also included the dispersal of Caroline’s herd of Ayrshires. Two calved heifers sold for 1,300gns, the first being purchased by H B Phillips & Son of Caldicot and the second by R Jones of Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire.
