The resilience of the Northern dairy farmers never wares; as a result the monthly pedigree club show and sale again produced a good quality turnout of fresh young cows and heifers and determined buyers. Having said that even the most serious producers exercised a little more caution at this sale, no doubt because of the late spring and worrying fodder situation.

Much respected and regular consignors of top quality heifers Messrs Cannon of the Espland herd, turned out the top three priced fresh milkers. At 2500gns “Espland Buckeye Abigail” out of a Cedarwal Spirte cow and an EX92 homebred Shottle grand dam displayed the ideal marketing traits, namely medium sized, with enough substance, good legs and a glorious wearing udder producing nearly 40kg of milk. This heifer, who won Reserve Champion, now joins the Wainwrights “Castle” herd at Low Hesket.

The Champion heifer, a homebred “Carol” descended from Hinton bloodlines and sired by the Bowberhill stock bull (Allen x Emerson Raven) represented a welcome reward for the Walton family of Bankview; and made 2000gns being bought by Fauld Farm Ltd.
