Sweethope goes out in style
The dispersal of the Sweethope Holstein herd owned by the Lawson family from Middleton, Morpeth was held in Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 22nd May in front of a packed ringside. The herd traced back to the famous Highwells herd that was purchased during restocking in 2001and had been carefully and expertly developed by George Lawson into a very productive group of dairy animals.
Topping the sale was Sweethope Talintini Bluebird VG85 2yr sired by Morwick Talintini Red. This March calving heifer was giving 44kgs and was bred back to Co-Op Oman Loydie(sexed). She sold for 2,700gns to Messrs Wainwright & Son Ltd of Seat Hill, Cumbria.
Selling for 2.400gns was another super uddered heifer by the same sire. Sweethope Talintini Joy 46 VG86 2yr was sold giving 42kgs and joins the herd of Messrs Sanderson of Burtholme Farm, Cumbria.
Sweethope Garrett Jackie 45 was an extremely milky heifer giving 46kgs and sired by Schillview Garrett. Her dam was a VG Netherside Dynamo with almost 10,000kgs she sold for 2,050gns also to Messrs Sanderson.
One of the nicest uddered cows in the sale was Sweethope Stylist Joy 34 VG85, she was bred from a one of the top families in the herd and was in calf to J-Lou Marshall Toystory (sexed). She was purchased by Messrs Kellett & Sons of White House Farm, Northumberland for 2,000gns
One of the big attractions in the sale was the young-stock, they were in excellent condition and well grown. Topping the group of autumn calving heifers was an early daughter of Regan-ALH G Devious bred from a VG86 Spirte dam with over 12,000kgs. She sold to Messrs Young of Crummock Bank Farm, Cumbria for 1,750gns
The young maiden heifers showed excellent potential to average £765 and topped at 1,120gns for Sweethope Toyota Vicki sired by Morningview AltaToyota, she was bred fom an Excellent dam from the much admired Balcurvie herd. This very stylish heifer was purchased by Messrs Ishmael of Gathurst Fold Farm, Lancashire.
