GALASTAR CHAMPION SELLS FOR 3700 GNS AT BEESTON FOCUS MILK SALE

The Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk Sale at Beeston Castle Auction attracted an entry of just 30 cattle for its May Show and Sale but what a trade the vendors had for their animals which would be not bettered at no other sale anywhere.

Judge this month was David Green of Lach Dennis, Northwich who selected Galastar Carlton Bluestone as his Champion from the herd of Ian and Philomena Scarisbrick of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. In reserve was Monlea Pagewire Arethusa, a fresh heifer from Monneley Farm Partners of Barthomley, Crewe.

The Champion was an outstanding young second calf cow, scored GP83 as a heifer and gave just

over 8000 kg in her first lactation. She is a daughter of Gillette Carlton and had four Ex/VG dams. She was sold giving 48 kg daily with the hammer eventually being knocked down to Alan Smith who purchased a total of eight cows and heifers for his Bumblebee Herd at Hinckley, Leicestershire.

The Champion was the star amongst a mediocre show with not that many really good individuals

which is unusual for this sale. However trade was great from start to finish with good ring of buyers competing well and all vendors would go home more than satisfied.

The next top seller and the leading heifer was Bidlea Mellow Tory from Ray Brown and Partners,

Holmes Chapel, a daughter of Feizor Mellow with seven VG/EX dams from the Wilsondale Triuna line. She sold giving 39.6 kg. for 2350 gns to Alan Smith.

The next top seller was Hendy Future Nanw, a daughter of Duckett-Sa Shot Future from Aled

Jones, Caernarfon that sold giving 42 kg daily to Rob Darlington of Hurleston, Nantwich. A further seven animals sold for bids at either 2150 or 2100 gns including the Reserve Champion, a lovely daughter of Pagewire which sold to the Elanbee Herd of MT & JE Hassall & Sons, Tarporley.
