FOCUS MILK FLYER AT BEESTON –SEVEN SELL FOR 3000 GNS OR MORE!

The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Focus Milk Show & Sale at Beeston Castle Auction attracted a larger entry of 78 head for its June event. Judge this month was Jane Arrell who owns and breeds cattle under the Thistlerose prefix. She awarded the Championship rosette to Sterndale Bonza Kim, a daughter of Karona Bonanza from Bill Nadin of Earl Sterndale, Nr. Buxton, Derbyshire and in reserve was Bidlea Scooby Duu Judith, a second calf daughter of Go-Farm Allen Scooby Duu from Ray Brown and Partners of Holmes Chapel.

Trade was fantastic from start to finish no doubt helped by a huge ring of buyers in attendance and in particular from the North of England, Scotland and West Wales as well as the locality.

Seven animals achieved a bid of 3000 gns or more selling up to 3300 gns. The top seller was Riverdane Golden Sara ET, a daughter of Goldwyn bred from seven generations of VG/EX dams from the noted Sara family, her great grand dam being the famous Copywood Integrity Sara Red  Ex93-2E)(EX94-MS)7*. She had calved at the beginning of May and was sold giving 33.8kg to WJ & H Williams for their Anglesey based Clwch Herd. Just 100 gns behind at 3200 gns was another member of the same family; Cricketfields Sterling Sara Red consigned by P I Mellor of Kegworth, Derbyshire is a daughter of Ardross Sterling and has six generations of top scored cows in direct line. She was purchased by P & A Mercer for their Sandringham Herd at Nomansheath, Whitchurch.

Five animals sold at the level 3000 gns including the very first animal in the ring which was the third calf Leagh Fortune Pledge from Graham Kirby of Wrea Green, Kirkham. This VG86 daughter of Tomar Fortune sold fresh five weeks giving 41 kg daily to Drointon Holsteins, Stafford.

Bill Nadin had three of his four heifers forward sell at 3000 gns each including his Champion winning heifer which sold to John and Janet Allen of Tutbury for their Leaventhorpe Herd and who also purchased Sterndale Liqueur Sukie, sired by a homebred Shottle son and out of an EX90 dam. From the same home and at the same price was the very well bred Sterndale Roses Licorice sired by Riverdane Roses Reflection from 6 generations of VG/EX dams.

The final animal at 3000 gns was Holmland Lheros Missy ET by Comestar Lheros and out of the EX94 Bromstead Jed Missy. She was sold by Steve and Patricia Bell of Penrith giving 35 kg to David Alderson for his Tinehill Herd at Northallerton, North Yorkshire. The Bell’s had a great day also selling the second highest price cow, the second calf Holmland Ross G Oralie (VG87-3yr) for 2900 to M & D Stable of Ulverston and two other heifers at 2800 gns each.

The sale concluded with a small entry of served heifers and weaned calves. The served heifers topped at 2550 gns for a red served heifer, ALH Hope Red consigned by P & V Aconley, Driffield selling to Richard Thomas for his Churchvale Herd at Carmarthen whilst the calves topped at 1850 gns for the three month old Thistlerose Wyman Maude from Jane Arrell whilst the four month old Aintree Stanleycup Nugget C from Aintree Holsteins sold for 1350 gns to W T Bunting, Ashbourne.
