SAC in the Spotlight with maiden heifers to 7000gns
The second annual Spotlight Sale at Sedgemoor Auction drew quality cattle from across the country and an excellent attendance of purchasers witnessed a top price of 7000gns. This was for ‘Riverdane Clay Autumn’ from Riverdane Holsteins, she was purchased by M Hussel for his Perrins Herd. This January 2013-born Gibbs Claynook Dude daughter is out of the VG88 classified two year old Shottle daughter Riverdane Sho Autumn. She is from six generations of very good or excellent dams including MD-Delight Durham Atlee, reserve intermediate World Dairy Expo and All American junior three year old 2005.
At 5000gns was ‘Koepon Domain Melody 2’ a freshly calved two year old from Sahara Holsteins. She travels to Scotland and is by Ronelee Toystory Domain and out of the reserve All American Shottle daughter Carters-Corner Shot Melody. She carries five generations of dams classified very good or excellent.
At 4800gns was ‘Churchvale Numero Ambrosia’ from D R and B M Thomas, she is an October 2012-born daughter of Numero Uno. Her dam is Sahara Atwood Ambrosia 2, sold for 4100gns at the Genetic Elite Sale 2012, she is out of the 27,000gns Smiddiehill Toystory Ambrosia. She was purchased by Ian Chave for the families Peacehay Herd. He also purchased Riverdane Holsteins’ ‘Riverdane Ex Ruby’ for 3800gns. Born September 2012 she is by Wabash-Way Explode and out of the Ex90 classified Baileys Advent Ruby Red.
Claire Jone’s VG86 classified second calver ‘Wiltor Million Cream’ sold for 4600gns. As a heifer she gave 8487kg at 4.78%p and 3.41%bf and her first calf Wiltor Snowman Creme sold for 3900gns at the Black and White Sale 2012. She has numerous maternal sisters that have sold for up to $100,000. Cream is by Million and out of the Ex92 classified Ralma Goldwyn Carmel.
‘Woodmarsh Zidan’ from Mick Gould sold for 3300gns, this March 2012 born bull is by Gillette Jordan. He is out of the Ex90 classified Woodmarsh Zoey, a daughter of Comestar Outside. He has six generations of very good or excellent dams with his grand dam the Ex95 classified Ocean View Mandel Zandra. Mick Gould also sold ‘Woodmarsh Zever’ for 3100gns, he is by Crackholm Fever and out of an Ex91 classified daughter of Woodmarsh Zoey, Woodmarsh Final Cut Zandra 8.
Making 3200gns was ‘Richaven Champion Squaw’ from Designer Holsteins. This second calver is giving 40kg a day and as a heifer was first and junior champion at Royal Norfolk Show 2012. She is out of three consecutive dams scored Ex93, her dam being Richaven RR Squaw.
Selling for 3000gns was ‘BB Million Ghost 2’ from BB Holsteins. This fresh heifer by Million is out of the VG88 scored BB Baxter Ghost 2, a daughter of the 27,000gns Riverdane Terrason Ghost. She has 12 generations of very good or excellent. She travelled to Lanhydrock with the Oliver family.
At the same money consigned by Designer Holsteins was ‘Springtime Wisconsin Molli Red’ a May calved two year old heifer. As a maiden she was first at South of England, Kent and Royal Norfolk. She is by April-Day Wisconsin-Red and out of the Ex92 scored Baileys Rampage Molli Red who herself won interbreed champion at South of England and Kent in 2011 and South of England again in 2012. This heifer is giving 38kg a day.
Another from Designer Holsteins and making 3000gns was the VG87 classified ‘Smartmove Atom Gail 2’. This fourth calver is giving 52kgs a day and gave 10871kg at 4.08%p and 3.24%bf in her last lactation. She is by Canyon-Breeze Storm Atom and out of the Ex91 scored Wiltor Mtoto Gail.
Also at 3000gns was ‘Mendip Windbrook Lustre’ from T R Quick, a February 2012-born heifer she is by Gillette Windbrook. Her dam is the VG86 classified Shottle daughter Willsbro Sho Lust and goes back to Idee Lustre.
With an 86% clearance and purchasers from Cornwall to Scotland the following excellent averages were achieved:
