SUMMER SIZZLER AT BORDERWAY

On Wednesday 17th July the Border & Lakeland Show & Sale took place at Borderway Carlisle followed by Part 1 of the Seabreeze dispersal on behalf of WR & J Leak & Son. Demand for fresh cows & heifers continues to grow as producers strive to compensate for the shortfall in production and aim to make the most of the continuing flurry of milk price rises.

The Show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Cogent and was expertly judged by James Pattinson from the Ellengrove herd. His overall Champion went to Logan Mammoth Ricki consigned by Brian & Michael Yates, Castle Douglas. She was sired by Emmark Mammoth and bred from a great line of cows from the highly respected Calbrett Astro Ricki family; she topped the day’s trade selling for 3,100gns to N&SJ Sanderson, Lanercost, Brampton. The Yates family sold another seven heifers to average just over £2500 they were all top quality, very milky animals backed up with excellent genetics.

The Reserve Champion was consigned by breeding consultant Mr S. Braid from the Murthat herd with Eastbowhill Baxter Rosada sired by Annan Baxter. She sold for 2,200gns to an undisclosed buyer.

A large percentage of the packed ringside had come to see Part 1 of the Seabreeze dispersal which included the most recently calved cows and heifers from the herd. The animals were a wonderful example of balanced breeding they were averaging 34kgs with many Excellent & Very Goods on offer. Topping the trade was Seabreeze Ashlar Lea VG85 2yr sired by Morningview Ashlar, this beautiful black silky heifer sold for 3,000gns to MJL Simpson & Son Kirklinton, Carlilse.

Seabreeze Dancer Sabrina VG87 2yr sold for 2,700gns to R&A Agnew, West Dhuloch, Stranraer. She was an outstanding individual due again with her second calve in January 2014. The same buyer also bought Seabreeze Derek Cherry VG86 2yr for 2,600gns. Cherry had a close to perfect udder and was due again to Gillette Jordan in February 2014.

Both Ian & Alan Leak would like to thank all their friends and neighbours who helped and supported their sale and wish everyone much success with their Seabreeze cattle. Part 2 of the Seabreeze dispersal is planned for later in 2013.
