FOCUS MILK SEES SANDLEY CHAMPION REALISE 3500 GNS AT BEESTON CASTLE

The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Focus Milk Show and Sale at Beeston Castle Auction attracted an entry of 47 cows and milking heifers at their July sale. Judge for the day was Izzy Whittaker who selected Sandley Present 91st from George Sanderson and family of Catforth, Preston for her Champion. In reserve was Neatishall Damion Marie 4th consigned by Enchanted Holsteins of Elswick, Preston.

No doubt the good harvesting day affected the attendance and trade was indeed a bit up and down. The star of the sale was indeed the Champion heifer who just prior to the sale had been scored (VG87-2yr) with a (VG88-MS) and is a daughter of the Sanderson family’s very successful stock bull, Woodmarsh Merchant. She in fact was the third successive generation of animals to win the Championship at the Club sales; her VG87-2yr dam was Champion in January 2011 and her (GP84) was Champion when she was sold as a fresh heifer too. The purchaser of this heifer was Terry Parkin who was buying for his Barnard Herd based at Barnard Castle, Co Durham.

Next in the price list was the Reserve Champion who sold for 2650 gns to an undisclosed Scottish purchaser; this daughter of Damion was out of an Ex90 daughter of Aaron. The same Scottish purchaser also acquired the third top seller purchasing Sandley Dorothy 21st, another daughter of Woodmarsh Merchant for 2200 gns.
