SNAB HOLSTEINS SELL TO 2350 GNS IN VERY BUOYANT TRADE

 

The Sale of a major portion of the Snab Herd, the property of AT Burrow & Son, High Snab Farm, Gressingham, Lancaster took place at Beeston Castle Auction on Tuesday, 3rd September in front of a good crowd of local and distant buyers. The trade was very fast throughout and the fresh milk and those calving before Christmas were particularly keenly sought after.

 

The top price was 2350 gns for Holywood Talent Awry (VG87-3yr), a daughter of Talent due with her third calf at the end of October to Shottle. She had given over 9000 kg. with her second lactation and was purchased by G Green & Son of Lach Dennis, Northwich. Next at 2300 gns was Snab Melody Bianca (G78-2yr), a July calved second calver by Moet Melody purchased by B & M Elkin & Son Ltd of Stone who also purchased Snab Bonus Roxanne (GP82-2yr), a second calf daughter of Magor Bonus Allen for 2250 gns. At the same price C & S Fitton & Son of Middlewich purchased the leading milking heifer Snab Bambam Honeybee (GP80-2yr) due with her second calf to Gillette Winners in November.

 

A total of 28 head realised 2000 gns or more and the cattle were distributed far and wide from Anglesey to Lincoln and to Gloucestershire in the south as well as Powys, Lancashire and all the local counties. The volume buyers of the day were ML & ME Whitting who purchased 23 head for their herd at Redmarley, Gloucestershire.

 

Maiden Heifers sold to 1020 gns twice for daughters of Gen-I-Beq Shotgun and Leagh Allie whilst calves at foot sold to 880 gns for an End Story daughter.

 

AVERAGES:

123 Cows and Milking Heifers £1775.35 (including 198 heifer calves at £601.26); 31 Maiden Heifers £763.45; 154 HEAD £1571.65
