3000 GNS FOR STERNDALE HEIFER AT BEESTON FOCUS MILK

The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Show and Sale of fresh calved cows and heifers took place at

Beeston Castle Auction on Friday 30th August in front of a useful audience of keen and interested breeders and milk producers. The judge for the day was Helen Herd who selected her Champion from the Sterndale Herd of WJ Nadin & Co., Buxton; this was for Sterndale Reflection Mona, a daughter of Riverdane Roses Reflection out of an Ex91-2E dam by Mr. Sam. In reserve was Rowarton Keneth Pail from GJ Sutton, Astbury, Congleton for a daughter of Monument Keneth with two VG dams.

In the bull section it was the Goulds of Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury who had Champion and Reserve; their Champion was Woodmarsh Viscount a son R-Val-Re 2338 Niagra and bred from 13 successive generations of VG/Ex dams from the Marq I family whilst the Reserve was Woodmarsh Lymested, a son of End Story and from 9 successive generations VG/EX dams from their noted Lyme family.

Trade was similar to last month but just a shade sharper particularly for the cows. The top price was 3000 gns for another heifer from Sterndale but not the Champion; this was for Sterndale Lovejoy Mae, a daughter of the Shottle son, Sterndale PS Lovejoy and bred from 6 gnerations of Excellent classified dams from the Hanoverhill Mae family. She sold to John Moore from Co Offaly in the Republic of Ireland.

The next two top sellers were Danevalley Reece Lace from AL Moore & Partners of Byley Middlewich and the Reserve Champion Female, both of whom sold for 2150 gns each to Richard Williams of Wrinehill, Crewe.

Bull trade was mixed with just six of the 10 forward finding new homes. The top priced bull was the Champion that sold for 2000 gns to Ian Speed for his herd on the Wirral whilst the reserve sold to Tony Lavelle who is also based on the Wirral.
