BLACKROSE HEIFERS FROM HOLMLAND LEAD THE WAY AT BEESTON FOCUS MILK SALE

The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Focus Milk Show and Sale of freshly calved Holstein cows and heifers on behalf of members attracted an entry of 61 head. Judge for the day was Owain Harries who selected both his champion and reserve Champion Females from the Oakshore Herd of R M & RA Shepherd of Ledsham, Wirral. The Champion was Oakshore Homestead A Gloria, a daughter of Bomaz Homestead with two VG dams and the Reserve was Oakshore Baxter J Cavalier a daughter of Baxter out of a twice 11000 kg VG87 dam.

Again trade was really good and really level with no huge big prices to distort the averages. Buyers were recorded from all the local counties as well North Yorkshire, Anglesey and one buyer from Pembrokeshire purchased 14 head.

The two top prices of 2700 gns and 2600 gns went to two heifers which were not entered in the pre-sale show from Steve and Patricia Bell of Penrith and both were members of the famous Blackrose family. The top seller was Holmland Jotan Rose Red a Feb 2011 born daughter of Jotan out of the EX92-2E Spring-Grove Storm Rose who has to date bred 13 VG/EX daughters and who is g.daughter the world famous Stookey Elm Park Blackrose (Ex96-5E).

The heifer at 2600 gns was Holmland Picolo Rose Red, a true red daughter of La Presentaion Picolo Red and out Holmland Ja-Bob Rose Red, one of the 13 VG/EX daughters of the Spring Grove cow. Both heifers were sold giving 38kg daily and both now join the Tinehill Herd of David Alderson at Northallerton, North Yorkshire.

Next in the price list was the Champion heifer which sold for 2400 gns to join the Ceinwen Herd of Harri Evans and family, Anglesey who purchased another Jotan red heifer off the Bells’ for 2300 gns. Ray Brown and Partners, Holmes Chapel sold a Scientific Debonair Red daughter from the Papoose family for 2300 gns to P & A Mercer for their Sandringham herd based at Whitchurch and at the same price Messrs Whitticase & Son of Oswestry the Reserve Champion female from the Shepherd’s. One other animal also sold at this figure and this was a Morningview Ashlar daughter from the Bowlandview Herd of Steve Garth at Preston which sold to Stubbs Partners Ltd for their herd at Whitgreave, Stafford.
