BIXLEYPARK HERD SELL ON FAST TRADE AT BEESTON CASTLE– TOP OF 3500 GNS FOR RED TOUCHSTONE

One of the largest dispersal sales this year of Pedigree Holstein cattle took place at Beeston Castle Auction in front of a great crowd of buyers when the entire Bixleypark herd, the property of Bixley Farms, Hill Farm, Kirby Bedon, Nr Norwich was sold on Tuesday, 1st October.

Buyers travelled from far and wide and the cattle were distributed onto farms from Cumbria in the North, Essex in the East and Pembrokeshire in the West and into many different counties throughout the Midlands just continuing to prove the point that it is entirely justifiable to transport herds who reside in non-dairying areas to our centrally located and very accessible market premises at Beeston which are welfare friendly and provide a stress free environment for all animals.

Trade was good from start to finish and particularly strong for fresh milk and all ages of young stock.

The top seller was Bixleypark Touchdown Linda Red (GP81-2yr), a fresh heifer by Rosedale Touchdown Red who calved at the end of August and was sold giving 34 kg to join the Wigboro herd of Smith Farms (Clacton) Ltd at Wigboro Wick, Essex. Her heifer calf sired by Synergy Always Red was the top selling calf selling for 1000 gns to join Peter and Ava Barrell’s Gemini Herd at Thetford, Norfolk.

Next at 3250 gns was the outstanding second calf cow, Bixleypark Rita 24th (VG88-3yr) a daughter of ME Dal Alliance who calved in July and was sold giving 51 kg to Steve and Olivia Sherratt of Hyde, Cheshire. Next at 2800 gns was the top animal in a great load of cows put together by Chris Thomas of Clarbeston Road, Pembrokeshire; this was for Bixleypark Velvet 66th (VG87-3yr), a third calf daughter of Mr. Sam who was sold giving 50 kg. a day. The top selling older cow was the very powerful Ichthus Shottle Spottie ET (VG86), a member of the Sunnylodge Spottie family due with her fifth calf at the end of October to Goldfish; she sold for 2600 to Andrew Winward of Tarvin, Chester. A further 10 animals made from 2300 to 2500 gns.

In-calf heifers were a great trade selling to 1950 gns twice. The first at this price was a Mr.Sam heifer off an EX90 dam carrying a sexed semen service to Ram Sam Doge which sold to WG Trow, Llandinam, Powys whilst the other was a daughter of Xacobeo due at the end of November to Palermo which sold to C & S Fitton & Son of Middlewich. Maiden heifers topped at 1650 gns for a Seaver daughter which was maternal sister to the cow that made 3250 gns. She too was purchased by Mr. Trow. Messrs Smith Farms purchased an 11 month old heifer by Seaver from the Spottie cow which made 2600 gns; for 1550 gns.
