TOP QUALITY CATTLE BRING THE BUYERS TO BEESTON MID MONTH TOP OF £2800 TWICE – 62 OVER £2000

The reputation of Wright Manley’s Famous Mid Month sale continues to further enhance its great stance

amongst commercial milk producers as the place to come and source top quality replacements for their ever expanding herds. This year our very good and loyal clients continue to support the sale by providing extremely good cows and heifers that have width and power, super udders, great legs and feet and the ability to produce lots of milk over a sustained number of lactations. And this was the case again this month – the quality was quite exceptional. Our vendors continue to be rewarded with good prices as there is no other market for buyers to come and have such a huge choice of fresh calved cattle of such exceptional quality as there is at Beeston Castle.

The October sale attracted a ring full of buyers from all over the country with plenty of fresh faces about. The cattle were distributed from South West Scotland to West Wales and just about everywhere else in between and trade was really good selling to a top of £2800 twice and some 62 individuals selling for £2000 or more including a dozen at £2500 and above.

COWS AND CALVED HEIFERS:

Trade was great from start to finish and although there were not just as many milkers forward as there has been in recent months, there was plenty of bidding. You know that trade was going to be good when the first cow in the ring was very light in a quarter and sells for £1500.

Hitting the highlights once again were regular customers Jack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury; they sold 23 head to average over £2300 claiming eight of the top twelve prices. Their leading heifers at £2800 were a red homebred heifer by HS Twister that sold giving 34 kg to Richard Williams, Wrinehill, Crewe and a Glen Valley Captain heifer giving 30 kg to an undisclosed West Wales client. The same West Wales client also purchased a Tennyson heifer for £2750 and an Emmark Mammoth daughter at £2700. David Colclough of Hassall, Sandbach purchased a Woodmarsh Topshot at £2750 giving 36 kg and a Million giving 34 kg at £2650 both from the Taylor’s.

Mark and Anne Bowden of Malpas topped their consignment at £2700 for a daughter of Magor Baroque Allen selling to West Wales and the Boughey family of Tarporley had their heifers up to £2550 for a daughter of Dalbytop Supersonic selling to the Colclough’s.

Trade for cows was on fire with the top being £2300 for a second calf daughter of Roylane Jordan from David Monk of Ormskirk selling to J Jolly of Brown Edge, Stoke-on-Trent. A second calf daughter of Manfred Justice from the Downing Partnership, Edenbridge, Kent sold for £2250 to Chetwynd Farms Ltd of Lampeter who were the volume buyers of the sale purchasing 37 head. Also selling at £2250 was a super unregistered fourth calf cow from Peter and Audrey Howard of Darnhall selling to J & CJ Sherwin of Middlewich.

Coloured breed entries topped at £2100 twice for two purebred Brown Swiss heifers from the Taylor’s of Myddle both being purchased by Robert McColm, Stranraer.

IN-CALF AND SERVED HEIFERS:

There was a distinct lack of close calving heifers in a large entry of 135 animals. Despite this trade was very good and unusually for this time of the year demand was really good for the lying off heifers. The top sellers came from A J Thompson & Sons, Kent who sold a pair of unregistered heifers due in November to a Limousin at £1700 and £1680. Jonathan Wilkinson of Meifod sold a lovely group of mostly spring calving heifers from his Pendyffryn Herd and topped his consignment at £1680 for a daughter Galastar Bluesky carrying a service to Gerard. HF Langley & Partners of Malpas sold to £1650 for a Shottle heifer whilst the Final Ever consignment from Lord Rayleighs Farms Ltd., Essex to complete their dispersal sale topped at £1620 for a daughter of Curtismill Halo. There were lots of spring calving heifers selling at prices up to £1400.

MAIDEN HEIFERS:

The small entry of maiden heifers were not a sparking trade and sold up to £860 for a daughter of Regancrest Ireland from Keythorpe Farms, Tugby Leicestershire.

HEIFER CALVES:

Apart from three lovely calves from The Downing Partnership, Kent calf trade was steady. A three week old McCormick calf sold at £560 with another at £420 and an End-Story made £560.

STOCK BULLS:

Just two forward, both Simmentals, and were topped at £2000 for a lovely 19 month old son of Ben Nant Venus from RWH & JM Jones, Powys

AVERAGES:

46 Cows £1680.43; 162 Milking Heifers £1840.99; 135 In-calf and Served Heifers £1406.37; 35 Maiden Heifers £596.86; 16 Heifer Calves £286.25; 2 Bulls £1560.00.
