Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an excellent demand for well-bred dairy cattle at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 22nd October. Eric Puddy’s ‘Marcroft’ Herd Dispersal drew crowds, that included 11 Welsh purchasers, to Somerset with a packed ringside making the most of the opportunity to purchase years of breeding with exceptional classifications and families on offer.

The day’s top priced Dam & Daughter sold for 4600gns, and was from the much sought after Pocahontas family being the Ex91 off lying third lactation cow ‘Marcroft Classic Pocahontas’ at 2600gns, and her yearling heifer calf by “Scientific Debutante Rojo” at 2000gns. The fourth calved Ex90 ‘Buckeye Pocahontas’ and her eight month old “De-Su Gillespy ET” heifer calf also exceeded 4000gns selling for 4300.

The day’s highest priced individual at 3000gns was the VG87 second lactation ‘Baxter’ daughter from the family of the AI bulls to include ‘Durham’ and ‘Die-Hard’. She was ‘Marcroft Baxter Dellia Red’ and was secured by the Dunn family of Devon. At 2900gns was ‘Moorshard Baroque Fran’ purchased from the breeder as a heifer calf and backed by 6 generations of straight Ex, she sold to Southern Ireland. Milking sisters from the much sort after ‘Pocahontas’ family and from 14 generations of VG and Ex both sold for 2700gns.

Travelling to Southern Ireland the top priced incalf heifer sold to 2500gns for ‘Willsbro Secure Rose’ due November to ‘Planet’.
